My thoughts exactly !!!!! How long has that show been on ? And their just now getting around to being offended by it ?? C'mon. Give me a break.
South Park rips on all kinds and types of people and they seem to go unscathed. So how do people/fans give South Park a pass and are mad at the Simpsons ?
I think that the difference is that Simpsons is on an "over the air" channel and South Park is on cable. Is it a double standard? Yes. I'm old enough to remember "All in the Family" when it came out. As far as ground breaking un PC programing ?? Simpsons and South Park aren't in the same league as that show was. Hell. If it's funny, it's funny. If you don't like it..... don't watch it !!!!
The series debuted in 89 but the Simpsons actually debuted on the Tracey Ulman show in 1987. The fact that Apu is just now offensive is ridicules because its a cartoon where everyone is stereotypical cannon fodder.
Im sure its been complained about or targeted before one of the funnier things that has happened though was when Isaac Hayes (the voice of Chef) through a fit (and quit) when they poked fun of Scientology. He had no problem being part of the show when it poked fun of every other religion out there but when they hit on Scientology (which he was a Scientologist) he couldnt handl it.
And then they dedicated a whole show to poking fun at just Chef. Because that’s how Stone and Parker role.
I’m against censorship in any form. I believe in “free will” when it comes to media. You always have the option to not look/listen, etc. Unfortunately, we have “others” attempting to “protect” us from messages sent via the media. This typically backfires as it draws attention towards the thing you’re not supposed to be seeing/hearing. Political correctness can go too far, even to the point of imitating the actions of fascists that many SJWs are vocally against.
Fascists ?? You don't need to be one of those to piss off the SJW's. Just disagree with them on any social issue. Then watch them melt down right before your eyes while they try to prove their case. The other group that's fun to watch are these "sovereign citizens". They walk into court and say that they don't have to live by the rules because they don't want to. U-tube is full of those videos. They crash and burn every time. But that's a whole different thread.
For the early 70’s? Back then PC had no meaning. They didn’t have computers & political correctness wasn’t even in anyone’s imagination.
I hear ya Gid but to me South Park is way worse, although funny, than All in the Family. Archie Bunker is tame compared to the skits on South Park !
It's hard to compare what was shocking in the early '70s and what's shocking today. But take a look at this. Go to U-Tube and type in....... "Archie Bunker doesn't dine with jungle bunnies". You can't say something like that TODAY. And this was 1972-73 ??? I don't think that South Park quite measures up to that. And not to change the subject too much. Look at all the crap Kanye West is catching today !!!
That is true, Bunker was always talking bad about blacks, Mexicans, Jews, and every other race on planet earth.
yes they were. We were allowed to be offensive in the 80s as well maybe even into the mid 90s before it started changing (slowly of course). Now you can not say anything without some group getting offended.
