Just my 2 cents . . . I, for one, am tired of the Browns trading down. Its time to add players . . . not additional draft picks !!!
Yep, you can add my spare change to that as well. I understand wanting to build up on picks and add more value in the draft. When the cupboard was bare in Cleveland it was the right approach and I really enjoyed watching the Browns make moves, acquire talent and add to the pick arsenal. Now, the team has some talent and some vets so spend those top picks on a franchise quarterback and, if he's available, the best defensive prospect on the board and field one of the better sets of bookends on the DL for the next decade.
Or . . . Add a player that can churn out yardage, move the chains and keep the defense off the field. Just sayin'
I'm not so sure that they trade out of that pick. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if New York and Cleveland both made their picks at 2 and 4, with the first real movement on the board coming at 5 or 6.
Question for all of our Browns experts. Do you think a trade down from 4 to 5 would be possible? That way the Broncos lock up their QB but you don’t move too far, pick up a pick or two, and still get Chubb/Barkley.
It has to be Barkley or Chubb. Gettleman and company were impressed with both interviews and even though there has been a lean away from Saquon, there appears to be a resurgence in his stock being at the #2 spot. I've been leaning Chubb all week but it's probably more personal bias than anything. I always lean towards taking the best defensive player on the board over the best offensive player on the board if they grade similar (and the offensive player is not a QB). It makes sense for the Giants to take Barkley for a lot of reasons and considering Gettleman has no history of trading down, coupled with a history of not being afraid to take a running back high, it probably has the highest percentage of being the pick. If the Browns take Allen, then Darnold may be the pick at 2, another quarterback would be taken at 3 and the Browns would likely get an incredible offer for that #4 pick. That's when the possibility opens up for Barkley to slide down to #5 where the Bucs could move up with Denver, or there would still be the outside possibility that Denver chooses Ward, the Colts take Chubb and Barkley slides right to TB. If the Browns go Darnold and the Giants take any position other than quarterback, the Jets will still go QB and the Browns will get some suitors for that #4 pick, but the asking price will be watered down a bit considering both Denver and Indy appear willing to move down the board. Right now, I think the Giants take Barkley and the Browns take Chubb.
I wouldn't rule out anything...But if we take a QB #1, Denver isn't going to be worried about us taking another one at #4, though they could become very concerned that we might deal to a different QB hungry team....So it is sure to be interesting to see all this shakes out.
I think it's VERY possible from a Browns perspective. I really don't think they want to move down to 10 or12. If the Broncos want that QB and want to avoid someone moving up ahead of them, I think the Browns would be willing to listen and take a modest premium return to do it. I really think they like Chubb and Barkley....If one or both are available, I think they would rather take him than move down and miss out...Now, if one of the two are gone to the Giants, we might be singing a different tune. I don't think they would want to take Denver word for it that they aren't taking Barkley if Chubb is the one gone. I think that would be worse case scenario for the Browns. QB at #1, Giants take Chubb (which I doubt), Jets take QB...and the Browns make a deal with the Broncos only to have them take Barkley instead of the QB as they thought they would...If that happened, I think they would immediately deal the #5 pick to the Bills for #12 and 2019 first round pick. Now as far as compensation, I do think it will take a premium to do it. They will be competing with the Bills, who by many reports are willing to part with two firsts and possibly another 2nd to move up. That's a lot of currency for a team in the Browns position of need. I think it will take the Broncos 3rd round pick or both of their 4ths, to get the deal done.
My (pipe) dream draft . . . Browns pick their QB at 1. Doesn't matter who. In my mind all of the top 4 have pros and cons as long as this fan base doesn't start pounding the table for this guy to start ANYTIME prior to the 2019 season. Giants take Chubb at 2 to replace JPP. (Yes, they could select Barkley). If they trade down, doesn't matter with whom, this trade partner will select the 2nd QB taken. The Jets didn't trade up to 3 for anything other than a QB. Now we're back to the Browns at 4. If the Giants take Chubb at 2, we take Barkley at 4 and never look back. If the Giants take Barkley at 2, then we entertain trading down into the 5 - 11 range with someone who (a) needs a QB or (b) covets Chubb and is willing to part with, at least, a 2nd round pick this year. If they trade down into the 5 - 11 range, target would then be Derrius Guice. After that . . . Trade back into the 1st round and target Conner Williams as the heir apparent to Joe Thomas and get that 5th year option as a bonus. From here on out focus on defensive depth with one exception. Deasean Hamilton, WR - Penn State.
Lym likes him the same as I liked the Penn State "sleeper" WR last year, Chris Godwin...No doubt James Franklin is bringing in some talent over at PSU...I'm super impressed with how quickly he was able to right the ship. That was an ugly situation he took on, and he's done a fantastic job...
I watched a few Penn State games this past year in order to get a bead on Barkley only to walk away super impressed with Hamilton.
I just noticed Godwin during his career because he torched Ohio State (more than once). He started slowly for Tampa last year, but really came on down the stretch. He's going to be very good....Hamilton does seem like a similar player. I like him too...
That's how I really took notice of Anthony Averett. I was looking at film of LB Rashaan Evans, and I kept noticing Averett flying all over the place making plays. I mighta sandbagged on him a little the first two mocks... His athleticism and ability will have him off the board before 3rd rd, I believe...
And it's the correct reasoning if Denver wants a specific player, whether a QB or to make Cleveland think it's a QB while they steal Chubb or Barkley or something. And if the latter happens at least Cleveland still have the ability to trade #5 for a QB. If Denver moves to #4 it would be a smart move.
The UDFAs have been auto-filled for the Draft Value Challenge. Rules will be posted soon but you can expect everything to stay the same. We may tweak the scoring but the selection process will remain the same.
