I like how Torgo liked the signings I put down for the Ravens and my brothers but not the Eagles. When even Torgo is like wtf is Edward Waters...

I'm filling in UDFA in the morning instead of now. I've been pretty much sleeping all day to heal some stupid abdominal muscle pull/tear that I got last night. Moving around or even lying down in certain positions was not an option so I've just been sleeping almost all day catching up on lost sleep and oversleeping from having nothing else to do.

It's feeling a lot better now and hopefully when I get up for the morning it's completely manageable.

    DRAFT REVIEW:
Detroit finished dead last defensively against the pass in 2019, and second to last in total defense. A not quite impressive 21st against the run.
In regards to goal #1 I'm not sure this draft could have started much better. I traded back two spots from 3rd overall, gaining a late 2nd round pick. Even after that trade I got our top target, a franchise coverage corner in Okudah. Then with my two second round picks I proceeded to acquire D-linemen that will force opposing Quarterbacks to speed up their decision making or pay the price, one through trade, the other I drafted. The trade for Ngakoue gives us a proven pass rush presence across from Trey Flowers. The addition of him and Okudah alone should immediately improve this defense. But, we continued to work the problem, adding a pass rushing interior presence (Madubuike), a second and third CB (Davis/Guidry), a responsible depth safety (Dinson), and classically versatile Matt Patricia type defender in linebacker Carter Coughlin.

In regards to goal #2 I think we again succeeded in our quest. Starter Graham Glasgow moved on this offseason and leaves questions about quality and depth inside. I doubled down, grabbing Tackle convert Hakeem Adeniji in the middle rounds and depth with Michigan mauler Onwenu late. I think Adeniji immediately pushes for one of the starting guard spots. Next offseason all 3 current projected starters at WR are due for new contracts. So with that in mind I found what I think was an excellent value in Michael Pittman in the early 3rd round. I think by 2021 the most likely scenario is Detroit pays Kenny Golladay the big bucks, Michael Pittman has played his way into the #2 role, and they can adjust for the starting slot spot later on or keep Danny Amendola on what would likely be another cheap one year deal.

In terms of priority #3, I think the most obvious pick to meet the "injury" depth designation is RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn whom I acquired in the late 3rd. I believe he can help fill the void if incumbent starter Kerryon Johnson misses time due to injury going forward. A legitimate concern, since he has yet to play a full season in the NFL. Beyond that, the best depth pieces are likely CB selections Javaris Davis and Javelin Guidry. Both are excellent athletes who will compete for playing time on a pass defense that was clearly undermanned last year. Michael Pittman and Michael Onwenu may prove to be needed depth at some point this season as well if Detroit is to take a step back towards the playoffs.

    Final Thoughts:
To me this draft was a smashing success. The additions of Jeffery Okudah, Yannick Ngakoue, and Madubuike should pay immediate dividends for the defense as a whole. Their offense likely doesn't require a whole lot of improvement (finished 17th overall in 2019 despite their starting QB missing substantial time and starting RB missing time as well). The real life team added proven backup Chase Daniel through FA, so I didn't have to attack the QB position at all. I did however provide current depth and likely future starters with the selections of Pittman, Vaughn, and Hakeem Adeniji. I also managed to come away with draft ammo for next year, adding 2021 4th and 5th round selections.

I think that is why Brady left the Patriots and Gronk retired. I think they are tired of their legacy being all about Bill Belichick and that he can turn any team to gold. Plus I do think there were issues between Bill and Tom. It was very hard not to pay attention to in the past 2 years.

A top five, two picks in each of rounds 2-5 AND picked up two future picks? Yeah, that's the way to rebuild a roster in a hurry. Revamping the pass rush now will help the secondary, and with a year of seasoning for Javaris Davis and Jeremiah Dinson, that secondary will be quite different in 2021.

The best part about being dead last against the pass is that I could throw darts blindfolded at a board full of names and probably improve this pass defense.

Looking back to see the reachs and steals I had from the mock in comparison to the real thing!

1.11 (11) New York Jets WR Jerry Jeudy Alabama Actually picked 15th overall, so pretty spot on.
2.16 (48) New York Jets DE Terrell Lewis Alabama Ended up dropping to the bottom of the third, which surprised me. 20th pick in the 3rd.
2.18 (50) New York Jets CB Bryce Hall Virginia I REALLY reached here, but the guy IS talented. Ended up going mid 5th. Should have known better. Lol.
4.14 (120) New York Jets OT Saahdiq Charles LSU He went top of the 4th, so pretty spot on.
5.12 (158) New York Jets WR Antonio Gibson Memphis He went MUCH higher than I figured he would in the third!
6.12 (191) New York Jets K Rodrigo Blankenship Georgia I was surprised he went undrafted! Missed.
6.32 (211) New York Jets P Braden Mann Texas A&M I was a pick behind from the perfect guess lol. Pretty spot on!

So yeah, a mixed bag! Overall, the only HUGE reach was Hall.

You always do a solid job of repping the Pats but I can’t recall you working a draft quite like this before.
