So in all I traded 1(2) For 1(12) 1(30) 2(3) Not exactly ideal, but I think the 49ers need talent across the board and signing Dee Ford made an Edge not pressing.
For the record I really do love Haskins tape -- but him being a one year starter made trading up way to risky when the prices started to get real. I was completely willing to let him go for what it was going to cost to guarantee him -- but no way I can pass when he falls into my lap.
Great spot to fall in your lap. Cardinals may have helped you out with the trade down (not that I think Murray would have necessarily been the pick had they stayed put). I'm still a little surprised I traded up with the Raiders and Packers. I liked all 3 of the defenders taken for the Raiders but I felt that if I could make a cheap trade to move up I'd do it. I lost my 2nd but still have all my 1sts and got a 3rd back. So I figured I'd get my top target. As for the Packers I was debating on holding onto my picks but Williams felt like a good option to trade up for and I still have a pick in each round and a few extra late ones sprinkled in.
I like the assertiveness of the Packers there. Q. Williams is a anchor your defense for 10 years type player in my mind. The Pack are (as reported) a dysfunctional mess and Williams is (reportedly) a strong character guy and someone players love. You could have gotten 2 lesser players but instead got a top 2 player in this class and an absolute monster. I like that move a lot.
Coincidentally if I don't trade with the Raiders I surely couldn't trade with the Packers. It wasn't the plan. I didn't even know he'd try to trade down again. I thought he may just be just as happy with a player at 4 as 2.
