It bothers me, because he doesn't list any reason or angle....I'll get over it eventually, but I just think that remark has no merit whatsoever.


Bleacher Report's Matt Miller compared Alabama LB Mack Wilson to New York Jets LB Avery Williamson.
Wilson ranks third in Miller's list of linebackers, listed only behind LSU's Devin White and Michigan's Devin Bush. He cites Wilson's strengths, including that he's "Explosive closing on the ball from the middle of the field; arrives at the ball-carrier with power and a violent streak." Miller writes. "He's a high-floor, low-ceiling player, but he should be a long-term NFL starter."

IDK. The Browns don't have a lot of weaknesses, but one issue the we needed to improve was a better pass coverage LB than Joe Shobert. Joe is a solid player, but I don't think he's the greatest in pass coverage. Mack Wilson was an ideal pick for Cleveland....

My honest take is he didn’t word that criticism overly well. Probably should have added some reasoning.

My honest thoughts on Wilson were that I had a hard time grading him. He didn’t personally explode off the tape at me. But he wasn’t bad either. I know I don’t like him as a first rounder. But come pick 40 on, teams preference prevails. He was probably one of my top 10 this year for “I watched 3 games and don’t know how to feel” players.

 

He is slow, his forty time is like 4.85 If I remember correctly.

 

Did you see the National Championship game against Georgia? Probably his best tape...That's when he first got on my radar...

I don't know about the 40 time. He didn't run at the Combine...Sure doesn't look slow to me.

I just remember seeing his forty time and thinking that the Steelers better get one of the Devins.

 

He is today's version of an NFL linebacker with adequate size, plus strength and toughness, speed pursue and an ability to handle coverage duties on any down. Wilson is like a classically trained musician who hits his notes on time, but the question is whether or not he can play as a free-form, improvisational talent when the opportunity arises. Either way, he's a solid, three-down starter in any defensive scheme.
