If Kap kneeling has raised any awareness of police brutality....even a little.....how is that not a good thing?

    He'd be starting somewhere.

NFL owners don't give a shit about the flag or the anthem....they care about money.

Exactly right. Criminals, wife beaters, alcoholics, and drug addicts all get 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances.

Yeah well the didn't hurt anybody's feelings by kneeling during a song. And as previously said, many of those angry at Kaepernick don't even "properly respect the anthem" the way they claim they want him to. I wonder if stood but pulled out his cell phone and played words with friends if people would still be angry.

it's their right as an owner to hire whomever they want. his occupation is football. he can go to the canadian league or arena league if he wants.

and you're a teacher? ok - i doubt in public school you stand for any anthem or even the Pledge of Allegiance. If they do, go kneel during it and see what happens to you.

I'm retired. When I was a teacher there were debates about children who's parents were against their kids taking part in the pledge of allegiance due to them not believing in god and not wanting them to have to say the words....they were allowed to not participate in the pledge in my class.

I got suspended for that. I filed a grievance. I won.

Loving your country is a good thing. Love of your country being a compulsory thing isn't.

Do you stand for the anthem when you're at home? And if you don't...why not?

And I'm still waiting to hear who Kap harmed in kneeling for the anthem.....my guess is I'll be waiting a while for that answer.

he's not harming anyone. it's a respect for his country that is my point. but hey - if you think kneeling is the best way to raise awareness, then so be it. that's your opinion and right to have. glad the country forefather's did something right 200+ yrs ago.

and dline-you said about son, brother, Father and Grand Father all fought for this County..? Well as a non-serving citizen, I have utmost respect them for all they did for this Country in the name of Freedom. My Dad and his brother, my Uncle, served in WWII. My Dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge and my Uncle was a paratrooper over in the Pacific battles. To any war veteran or service men or women, i respect them for what they sacrificed for the rest of us Americans who didn't serve. Active and retired war veterans and service men and women gain my respect more than Colin Kaepernik!

I don't recall saying it was the best way....if dumb hyperbole is your escape in this argument maybe you want to rethink and regroup.

I'm glad a group of old white guys that owned black people and didn't think women had rights but thought all men were created equal anyway got some things right too. I'm not glad so many dumb, fat Americans don't truly understand what they got right but feel so star spangled awesome about the flag and catchy song they will bitch if you don't stand up for it. These tend to be the same people that will push you over running into Walmart on black Friday and can't name more than 3 of the bill of rights.

But hey.....they sure do love that flag. Real Muricans.

That was BWW. I said a lot of things worth discussing and with merit, but BWW is the one with those particular veteran family members. My uncle fought in Vietnam.

So it's okay to discriminate against someone who's not doing anything illegal or immoral, and who's personally donated $1 million of his own money to worthwhile causes...?

What next, Cat? If you don't place your hand over your heart you're suspended for a game? Look at a cheerleader's ass during the song and get 4 games?

im done my xmas shopping already. a trick i learned from my older sister, and i never go to Wal-Mart. i majored in History in College, so yes, I know more than 3 Bill of Rights. My advisor would kill me if I didn't !

we're not going to agree here, so there's no reason to keep bashing each other for our views.

This is my personal opinion, of course, but I find it to be more disrespectful to this country to care less about the lives of it's citizens and actual equality than I do someone kneeling during the anthem. To my knowledge, all United States citizens should consider the treatment of their brethren more important than someone's actions during the anthem, yet that's not how it plays out.

One thing about me is I observe and take notes on people's views and actions and I'll remember it for awhile for whatever reason. Manosteel and Beachbum, both Steelers fans I've debated with since 2006 on CBS, can confirm this (although I'll admit I do mix their arguments up on occasion. This doesn't pertain to anyone here, but I've noticed the many hypocritical moments with people that are just appalled by Kaepernick's actions.

    - Ray Lewis used to stand, hand on heart, tears coming down his face every single time he was out there for the anthem. And many people I've associated with over the years that laughed at him and said he was over doing it are calling Kaepernick every name in the book for kneeling

    - People who routinely get snacks during the anthem are criticize Kaepernick.

    - Facebook friends who I've seen take pictures while the flag is being unraveled in the background have protested the NFL for Kaepernick not standing.

All in all, it's crazy how important it is. I'll say this specifically isn't about Catfish, but I've seen people on this site complain about Kaepernick, specifically saying he should have found any other way to protest/raise awareness.........but those same people are angry in the thread from years ago about the Rams players coming out the tunnel with their hands up.

don't yell at me axe- blame the owners for blackballing him.

If he was playing as good as he was when he signed that contract with the 69ers, he would be gainfully employed by an NFL team right now.

don't yell at me axe- blame the owners for blackballing him.

He hasn't been blackballed. Just like Ray Rice hasn't been blackballed.

If either of them were better on the field they would be playing for NFL teams right now.

The notion that NFL owners are making some kind of symbolic stand against Kap in some show of patriotism is ridiculous. Aaron Rodgers could piss on a flag at the 50 yard line and he's still gonna have a job...because he's the best QB in football.

I'm not yelling at you - I'm questioning your line of thinking. The man is involved FIRST HAND in working with inner city youth, and has donated nearly $800,000 to charities...and you're complaining because he kneels during the anthem.

axe and bears - if you think i am the only one in America to be mad at Kap for kneeling during the National Anthem, I think you're both nuts.

Yahoo.com this morning - an entire 7 yr old football team took a knee to protest the riots and police brutality in St. Louis. They are following in the shoes of Kap to take a knee to raise awareness of what is going on in St. Louis. Frankly, I don't know how that stands for anything unless you speak of it. I can take a knee right now - why am I doing it for? Zilch! A ribbon or decal on the helmet has a message on it. That's awareness. A tv commercial is awareness and can reach millions who have a tv set. that's awareness. does taking a knee really raise awareness of Police Brutality?

And Axe-I am complaining bc again as I said before - there are better ways to get awareness or your message out to the public. What does take a knee do exactly? So taking a knee means - hey go watch the news and see how many people are being brutalized by the Police Departments across America ? To me it doesn't make me aware of jack shit. Kap should have a commercial about this Police brutality and speak of it. THAT'S RAISING AWARENESS to me. Taking a knee just brings the spotlight on yourself.

And there are better ways to raise awareness as I said yesterday. I don't think taking a knee is the best way to do it. A commercial would reach millions of people and do so much more to shine a spotlight on the real issue of Police Brutality in America.
