Well. Robbie Gould did come out and say Green Bay was the ideal place to be traded to that was close to home.

I just read this. What do you guys think?

Should Bears trade for Ravens K Justin Tucker?
    bearswire.usatoday.com
The Bears don’t have any glaring issues on their roster, except one: kicker.

The kicker carousel has been front and center this offseason, including eight kickers on the roster at rookie minicamp.

And the results haven’t exactly been encouraging. In fact, Matt Nagy has been trying to throw every possible pressure at them, outside of game experience, to see how they handle it. And it’s been a mixed bag.

With the Bears gearing up for training camp, the eight have dwindled down to two, with Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro vying for the starting role.

That doesn’t mean that one of them will be the Bears’ kicker come the regular season. In fact, their kicker might not be on the roster yet. It’s possible that the Bears will sign a veteran kicker to compete during the preseason as roster cuts take effect.

But could the Bears turn elsewhere than free agency?

A fan posed this question to NFL Network’s Dan Hanzus in his weekly mailbag:

Would it be crazy for the Bears to offer up a first-round pick for All-Pro Ravens kicker Justin Tucker?

Here’s what Handzus had to say:

I imagine most would find such a trade offer laughable, but I don’t. Justin Tucker is without a doubt one of the greatest kickers in the history of the sport, if not the greatest. At 29 years old, he should have another 6 to 8 years of excellence in that supremely gifted right leg. If you’re Bears GM Ryan Pace, and you believe your team has enough talent to win the Super Bowl right now, and you know Robbie Gould is no longer an option, Tucker makes a lot of sense. Again, most people don’t believe any kicker is worth a late-first-round pick. But people need to stop sleeping on how important a kicker really is.

There’s no denying that a reliable kicker is vital for the success of a team thinking deep-playoff run, as the Bears learned the hard way.

And while it’s not necessarily laughable to consider the Bears trading for one of the best kickers in NFL history — with their Super Bowl window wide-open — it’s not necessarily realistic. Tucker, 29, signed a four-year extension this offseason with $12.5 million fully guaranteed, setting him to stay in Baltimore through 2023.

Baltimore would want more than a 1 for Tucker. That guy is worth 2-4 wins a season for them. He makes 40-49 yarders look like extra points.

Laughed my ass off at this one!

Vikings do Pace and us a solid, stopping pace from trading a conditional 5th to Baltimore for their back up kicker. From the twitter of profootballweekly:

I mean, if they felt that bringing in another kicker was needed, then... I would've parted with a fifth rounder. I'm pretty sure our two guys have regularly hit around the 80% mark in practices. If the difference between a win and a loss in a crucial playoff game is a fifth round pick... I'd give it up.

Sounds about right in theory but as kickers go there is no guarantee that the 5th rounder would make that kick either.

How the fuck are we still in this position? Are kickers really this hard to land? Watching that dipnuts miss a 48yarder in preseason just fucking kills me.

I wonder if this goes back to the 2011 botched draft trade between the Bears and Ravens. Ravens were pretty pissed at the Bears over that.

If I had to pick between the guys we have now it would be Pineiro. I know he missed the FG last week but in the long run I want the stronger leg kicking into the swirling winds in Soldier Field. Parkey's problem was that he would float the ball up and cross his fingers rather than drive it through. Give me a driver.

Gould actually had a pretty weak leg back at the start as i remember. Didn't he hardly ever attempt 50yarders his first couple seasons?

I think i'd rather have the guy who's accurate. The tie breaker can be whoever isn't a mental weakling as Parkey was.

  17. blang84 Legend Bears

    True.

And yes, can't have another mental midget. Any kicker who is visibly praying on the sidelines prior to their kick doesn't have the mental toughness to be in the NFL.

I would appreciate it if you tell those voices in your head to quit prank calling the voices in mine because sometimes we just like to be alone with ourselves.

I agree if he lacks that much confidence in his ability that he has to summon the Sky Daddy how mentally weak is he? Look I have nothing against religion except it gives you a good excuse to kill to paraphrase Alvin Lee, but come on, talking to the holder or the long snapper would likely yield better results.

Enough fucking around. Get Slye from the Panthers and be done with it. 5 FG’s in 6 quarters so far. No misses 2 50+.

Honesty it seems like every other teams backup is better than the two competitors we have. Seeing ANOTHER ducking miss in preseason (that’s averaging one per game) means honestly neither of these guys is worth a shit. How can Pace be this bad at picking talent?
