    lol, beat me to it....

Sean McVay??? Are they assuming the Browns would trade for him?

How many first round picks is he worth? Gruden 1.0 went for two ones, two twos, and some money.

McVay's an Ohio guy - born in Dayton, college in Oxford (Miami) - and allegedly grew up a Browns fan. This offseason, he stated very bluntly if he didn't have Jared Goff, he'd sell the farm for Baker Mayfield.

How could McVay be odds on favorite? That doesn't even seem remotely possible.

  4. TopDawg Legend

Hmmmmm....I bet that would be really expensive. Especially after he wins a ring this year.

  5. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Doesn't really matter who it is. He'll only be here for a year or two.

    That's the spirit!

No, I think he'll be here winning championships with Baker Mayfield leading the way...I know you didn't get your way as far as the Browns head coach goes, but....oh who cares. I'm just glad we are rid of the bum.

Tough day for the Hue Truthers (Hue-thers).

Jackson coached 40 games here. His record was 3-36-1. He lost 20 road games. He lost 36 games by an average of 11 points per game. He was literally the worst NFL coach ever.

And here's where it gets uncomfortable for the Hue-thers... this team had more talent than 1-15 his first year. It had way more talent than 0-16 last year. It has more talent than 2-5-1 this year. It obviously takes more than an ill-equipped head coach to go 3-36-1 in two and a half seasons, but critical to Hue was his unwillingness to adapt, to change, and to ever show humility.

At every point in his Cleveland career, it was someone else's fault. Sashi Brown took the roster down to the studs in Year 1. Yeah... that was the plan. Everyone agreed upon that. If you were uncomfortable fielding a football team under those conditions, you (Hue) should have never taken Jimmy Haslam's money in the first place. He got to hire his guy, Ray Horton, to lead our defense - and the results were miserable. But that was Ray's fault... time to hire another guy.

At no point in his tenure here was he ever the adult in the room. He was petulant. He was insecure ("I'm the head coach. Period."). He was quick to point the finger and last to accept the blame because in his eyes, there was always another excuse. To a great extent, he was aided and abetted by the Haslams, who own the lion's share of blame after Hue in this. The marriage of analytics to an old-school football coach was a disaster from the get-go... but it was their guy.

Instead of going with youth and trying to develop them Year 1, Hue's massive ego had him playing veterans, coaching scared, and trying like hell to scratch out a win. I get that no one wants to be 0-16, but again... these were the conditions upon taking the job. Had he allowed the youth to develop, his second year campaign would not have been as brutally bad as it was. Again, enabled by the Haslams, he won a power struggle with the front office, blamed everything else imaginable, and somehow kept his job despite going 0-16 and 1-31 overall. That should have been it... but it wasn't.

The wounds inflicted by Jackson will heal and hopefully, the players he's stagnated for 2.5 seasons will grow under interim stewardship and eventually nurturing trust from a respectable head coach hired by GM John Dorsey. Hue was never that guy. Truth be told, he just was never going to be a very good coach.

A couple of the names on this list seem rather unrealistic. Why would McVay be the frontrunner? He has a great young team to lead for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, I don't know who put that list together, but McVay isn't going anywhere...

A trade scenario, not unlike Tampa Bay with Jon Gruden.

Haslem started out the press conference with a joke...

He says "This was a tough decision"...

With the youth on this team, I would give up (2) first rounders and wouldn't bat an eyelash. We have the cash to make up those two draft picks with free agents.

It's important to open up with a zinger to ease the mood of the crowd.

Oh yeah. Pipe-dream, but hey... worst we can hear is "no".

From that list, my money would be on Toub. Depending on how he packed his coordinator room, that would be a savvy move. Assistant head coach and special teams guy who could bring in the right coordinators to develop the offense and defense, respectively.

Sinking all the chips into a head coach to be the catalyst for all the change is only going to get us more of the same.

Again, unless we give up the next three years' worth of draft picks for McVay.

Flash back to Jan 13, 2016:

Hue Jackson was named as Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns. At the time, he was regarded by virtually everyone as the hottest Head Coaching candidate available. To a man, every member of the L4SN Browns forum commumity was dancing in the street over that hire. Then he proceeded to go 1-31 over the next two years.

I have been critical of former GM, Sashi Brown. The more I dug into 2016 and 2017, the more I realized just how brilliant he was at asset management. I don't recall ever complaining about the number of draft picks or the salary cap space Sashi accumulated. If anything, I was critical of his talent assessment. I was somewhat wrong. Yes, he whiffed on a number of draft picks but, he did manage to land a number of players we now consider to be in the core group around which the Browns could build upon.

Sashi's asset management skills were the centerpiece of the now infamous 5 year plan. In today's press conference, Jimmy Haslam stopped just short of admitting that the roster shortfalls and resulting 1-31 record was part of that plan, was not unexpected and was the reason Jackson was retained for the 2018 season.

Fast forward to the 2018 season. The Browns start out 2-5-1. Two of those five losses (and one tie) were to clearly superior teams in the Chargers and Steelers. That leaves 2-3. Of those three losses, how many (according to members of this forum) were the result of piss poor place kicking and/or officiating? Answer: All three of them. According to you guys . . . the Browns should be 6-2-0 right now and in 1st place in the AFCN.

Again, according to Jimmy Haslam during today's press conference, Hue's firing was due to the relationship he had with Todd Haley. To Haslam's credit, he realized it takes at least two to have a toxic relationship so Haley got whacked, as well. It had nothing to do with either's ability to coach. In hindsight, Hue was told to bring in an Offensive Coordinator and he added the best one on the market in Todd Haley. The net result was three alpha dogs locked up in a room and only one of them survived.

Ok, I'll do that... 2019 First round, 2020 First round and 2021 Second round...still worth it. I'll repeat what I said earlier, that guy is a savant. The only thing that will derail his career is if he gets burned out. He seems to do everything a million miles an hour, would it is possible. But, I'd take my chances.

I agree, BUT, it's Hue's job to make sure his coordinators are doing their job... To special teams, kicker specifically, have been horrendous...yet the STC is still in place..and the kicker continues to miss kicks.

The referees Miss calls, but for the Browns it has been, week after week HORRENDOUS calls and Hue just stood there with a lost look on his face. I don't recall any of the calls where he went on to the field demanding that the refs explain in great detail how they came up with a call. He just accepted it and moved on.

I don't think Haslem eluded to the only reason they were fired was their relationship. It was the catalyst, but he also stated the job wasn't getting done. He didn't say it in the presser, but there are reports that the team gave up in the second half of yesterday's game and that was actually the final straw in Dorsey's eyes. When consulted by Haslem, Dorsey told him they couldn't continue with those two and the way they act in the building. I honestly think something happened this morning with Haley, I'm not sure their mind was made up when they woke up this morning.

You cropped out the entire first paragraph. Do you disagree that you weren't happy when Hue got hired?

Do you disagree that three of this years losses were due to shitty place kickers and/or even shittier officiating?

And who's job is it to go and get a place kicker for the roster? Amos Jones?
