They didn't rush shooting 3s. They pretty much only shot uncontested looks or ones where the defender wasn't ready. MTSU was actually the team that rushed 3s late as they wasted too much shot clock trying to run the game clock. Michigan State never led once all game. It goes well beyond a few missed 3s. P.S. there were no safe 2s to be had with that D. They were letting the Spartans have a few open 3s. Raiders were prioritizing that inside D.
