I have to admit, my preferred play of sitting Trubs to start the season and bringing him on slowly? Im being forced to question it more with each week. He's just better than Glennon in every way other than neck measurables. Maybe they should just start him now.
So the Bears just basically wrapped up the preseason, a couple of things I saw during this game: - Vic Fangio has definitely built a solid defense, basically starting from scratch for the 3-4 switch but this team looks more and more like the other defenses he built elsewhere. They still haven't shown an ability to get turnovers but have looked really solid in the preseason. - The Giraffe looked good on the first drive, then he looked very meh from that point on. If this was a regular season game I think Lebeau would have blitzed the shit out of him because the guy is a statue in the pocket. He makes Tom Brady look like a world class athlete. Fox describing his performance as "superb" at halftime tells me all I need to know as to who the starter will be for week 1 because while it was a good performance, he was far from "Superb". - Trubisky reminds me of Russell Wilson. Great pocket presence, solid decisions, athletic and ability to make plays with his feet. Fox is too backward thinking to see that Trubisky would be the better choice. You can't tell me that Glennon was the better QB this preseason and if that is the case, you start the kid who you drafted with the number 2 pick. - More on Trubisky. I'm really surprised at his rapid development. While I saw the talent in college, I didn't think he was anywhere near being ready to play at this level. His pocket presence is something that you can't teach. He nevers seems to be rattled and goes through his progressions like a more experienced QB. This kid has "it" and the sooner he starts the better. I think the more he sees the field the quicker he will be ready to be the franchise QB the Bears have been searching for 50 years. I'm surprised to say that but everything I heard about his work ethic and seen him do on the field, he should be the starter. His ability to get yards with his legs is a dynamic that Glennon doesn't have and I actually think there is nothing that Glennon can bring to the field that makes him better in anyway than Trubisky. - The offensive line has been a pleasant surprise. Granted this is the preseason and defenses are very vanilla but they have looked good at run blocking as well as pass blocking. Adding Long back to the mix should make it even better because I'm not wild about Grasu and love Whitehair at Center. - Losing Meredith was huge. The Bears have White and Bellamy and the rest of the guys are slot WR's. I don't like White and he has done nothing this preseason to make me change my opinion of him that he is an epic bust. He is now the #1 WR and no way in hell is he capable of filling that role. I'm guessing that Pace will be talking to a lot of GM's and scanning the waiver wire for something at this position which is extremely thin in terms of talent. - Kendall Wright looked very good and showed why he was my favorite free agent signing. Too bad right now there is nothing on the outside to scare anyone because I think this guy could be a real weapon in the slot. - Not sure why Tarik Cohen got the ball so few times except that maybe the Bears didn't want teams to get film on him. He is fun to watch and is the only reason I can think that they didn't get him in there a little more. They also seem to be trying to figure out which RB's they are going to keep which could be another reason since they have already seen what he can do. - The defense will be good enough to keep the Bears in games but with Glennon starting, I think they will struggle to score points much like they did most of last season. After the 3 preseason games, not really much has changed on my opinion of this team except for that of Mitchell Trubisky. I actually think that Trubisky gives this team a better chance of winning. The Bears are long shots to win any of the first 4 games no matter who starts so why not give the kid a shot and get him ready for the rest of the season. Fox will start Glennon, I have no doubt, but it will be interesting to see just how long he can do that for without getting pressure from Pace if the losses start to mount.

Was listening to the postgame show on 780, and Tom Thayer thought the exact same thing. He also suggested Cohen is a lock for the 53 man because bears brass has seen enough. Was also suggested bears will be active after the 4th preseason game and the cuts begin at WR. Unless Ryan Pace wants to drag 34 year old Marques Colston out from the pasture......
Through three games Trubs has clearly outplayed Glennon, both in terms of the eye test and statistics. It's too bad our management is so damn stubborn to go with Glennon at the start, who knows if it will cost us wins this season. I'm glad they didn't give him more carries. Not worth the injury risk. I'd like to see Langford and Benny Cunningham get all the carries in the final game.
I think you're under estimating Gentry. He's not a slot. He's 6'2", has speed and unlinke Bellamy, has hands. Unlike White, he can actually run a route. Did he even get one carry? I don't remember seeing him. I suspect they've seen enough and know they have an extremley versatile, dynamic, hard working, and legit homerun threat. No reason to let the league get any more film on him. At least that's why I hope he didn't play
He has better hands too. Here are the WRs I'd like to see make the team, though I'm sure Fox has other ideas: - White - Wright - Gentry - Titus Davis (ugh) - Victor Cruz (ugh) No to Thompson. No to Wheaton. Hell No to Bellamy.
Why not Thompson? He's going to make the team for his return skills alone. But, I also think he's looked good this pre-season.

You are right, just haven't seen the Bears give him much in terms of quality playing time. He would be an outside WR but it seems he always plays late in games. I like him but what I like or you like doesn't usually mesh with this regime. Fox is adverse to any kind of risk and relying on an undrafted rookie doesn't seem his style. Look for an old vet or someone with experience to fill the Meredith spot. Did he even get one carry? I don't remember seeing him. I know he got one, but believe that was it. Keeping him off film is a smart thing to do, but not sure if I'm giving this coaching staff to much credit to be that smart. It's too bad our management is so damn stubborn to go with Glennon at the start, who knows if it will cost us wins this season. I agree Blang. This team is going nowhere in a hurry this season but i actually think Trubisky is the best option. His athleticism makes the offense more diverse. Fox is risk adverse due to his caveman nature and wont have the balls to start a rookie when his job is on the line, even though the rookie is probably his best chance to save his job.
It just goes to show what a pussy Fox is. Even though his job is to win games, he is still Pace's bitch and will go with the guy who does not make this team better on Sundays. Unless Patg's theory is correct and Fox already knows he's guaranteed to be here in 2018.
I don't think shit has been guaranteed to Fox beyond this season. I don't think he is Pace's bitch anymore either. I think the original plan was to start Glennon but I also think Trubisky has developed faster than even Pace imagined. He will face pressure from him to start him sooner than later. The more the losses mount this season the more pressure there will be from everyone, including Pace, to play him. Trubisky is way ahead of where I thought he could be at this point, I am really surprised at where he is but it also gets me excited because if he has come this far, this quick, I can only imagine where he will be if he gets serious playing time this year. The only thing that could damage Trubisky is a shitty offensive line and the Bears line has proven to be pretty solid this preseason. There is a good running game to back him up and so at this point, the reasons for playing him are starting to far outnumber the reasons for not playing him.
It was the original plan but if you're Pace why not just keep your mouth shut and let things play out. Because of how forceful he was (possibly to protect Glennon's fragile ego) about the starter, he pigeonholed himself and Fox into being in this position. Fox heaped hyperbolic praise on Glennon Sunday after his first half because he had to. Looking at the full body of work we know who the best QB is but the team will never say it because of Pace's position out of the gate. Fox should know better and if he wants to win, would start the guy he feels is better. So he's either Pace's bitch or not yet convinced who is the better option.
