this sunday the new era or old veterans committee release their hof vote. last year after years of no one getting in they voted in alan trammell and jack morris and some catcher missing by 1 vote. so this sunday is the next class, if any. i know don mattingly is on the list. not sure about others.
VV they went in last summer. this is for the veterans committee vote and guys already off the main ballot. the regular hof vote is announced jan 21, 2019. mariano rivera is a lock for the hall and maybe 2 others, one being the late roy halladay.
Wow - Lee Smith and Harold Baines get the New Era HOF vote yesterday and are headed to Cooperstown next July 2019 ! https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...d-into-hall-of-fame-by-todays-game-committee/ To me Smith should've gotten in on the regular vote but didn't. Baines had solid stats, but was off the ballot early for not getting the 5% to stay on the ballot. Not a good sabermetrics guy either, but the guy could flat out hit and 2870+ hits and 350+ hrs says a lot. Happy for the both of them. Baines joins Chipper Jones and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only #1 draft picks overall to make the HOF.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/harold...town-lot-baseball-fans-baffled-035839868.html wow people are pissed Harold Baines made the HOF over others on the New Era ballot. they're right ! How does someone not get over 6% and get removed from the HOF ballot but 12 guys puts him into the HOF ? Wow. Lou Pinella fell 1 vote shy this year and Catcher Ted Sizemore fell 1 vote shy last year. wow. Sizemore wasn't even close to the getting in this year.
No the really infuriating one is that Steinbrenner got fewer than 5 votes. That's a joke. He was the one no doubt about it slam dunk should've been in the Hall long before now nominee and he got at best a quarter of the votes? Boo. This panel is even worse than the old one.
And just slightly below that...how in the everloving actual F did Charlie Fricken Manuel get on the ballot? No offense to the guy, but 64th all time in managerial wins and never even won a Manager of the Year and he's someone we can talk about as a HOF manager now?
That's not even funny. They need to wake up and fix this completely broke system. Its so screwed up its not even laughable anymore. Why these people cant see their own ignorance is beyond me.
Hal Baines was a good hitter and everything but HOF'er? That's a stretch. Utley and Rollins have much stronger cases, IMO. And, yeah the idea that 12 people can overturn something that hundreds of people didn't support is a little troubling. Don't get me wrong...the old system sucked, too...all it took was one pushy guy on the committee to stand on the table for you and you were in basically (e.g., Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr). But this is no improvement. Might as well put Don Baylor in, too. And hey make sure Ned Yost gets nominated!
all true Will and U Dog. Like I said how did Ted Sizemore come 1 vote shy of induction from this same committee last year and no where to be found this year ?
I have no clue how the nomination process works, I think the whole ballot might’ve been different. PS Ted Simmons...Ted Sizemore was a 2B
yes-simmons thanks. the new era vote is only 12 people voting. they vote on the nominees and whoever gets 75% of that vote gets in so it's only 8 or 9 votes needed for Cooperstown. Lou Pinella was 1 vote shy. Was he really a HOF manager ? Baines is going to hurt the credibility of this committe for a while. and there are 3 other committees too voting on players from other eras as well. so up to 5 committees vote for people for the hall every few years. that's crazy.
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...-lefty-eventually-headed-to-the-hall-of-fame/ CC just became the 3rd lefty to 3000 K's. He has a Cy Young, ALCS MVP, and a solid W-L record and over 250 wins and I think 100 more wins than losses. I think he's a lock for the HOF. Thoughts ?
