Bruins/Habs will meet for the 9th game 7 in their history. That is the most number of game 7s between any two teams in any major professional sport. Habs are 5-3. This will be the 6th one played in Boston, Bruins are 3-2 in the others. Bruins will be playing a 7th game for the 6th straight season tying the Avs (98-03) for the most consecutive seasons playing at least 1 7 game series. thats all the useless info i have for now.
Whoops I shorted Rask a win and we can tack on a loss. So in 20 elimination games, he's won 5 times. I'm not a big fan of putting too much on goalies good or bad, but we have a larger sample size on Joannie now so I think it's fair to put a ? next to his name in big games.
That is very misleading. 5 of those non-closeout games came in 2010. the first one was when the Bruins were up in games 3-1 vs the higher seeded Sabres. The Bruins won game 6 and Rask outplayed Ryan Miller that series in what was the year of Miller. Tuukka outplaying Miller was the biggest reason Boston upset Buffalo. We all know what happened next vs Philly, up 3 games and then lost 4 straight. None of those were directly Rask's fault, I think Philly fans would back me up on this. All 7 of those games could've gone either way. Sure it would've been nice for Tuukka to stand on his head there and steal a game but he didn't give up many (maybe even any) bad goals. Not making excuses for him as a 22 year old but thats 5 closeout games he lost and can hardly be blamed for....imo. Fast forward to Tuukka's next playoffs- 2013. He was outstanding and the Bruins best player last postseason and came very close to helping them bring home the Cup. 2014- Solid as expected vs Detroit and less than great vs Montreal where he was outplayed by Price. In his playoff career he is 28-19 w/ a save percentage of .930. Thats better than good. International- 2006- WJC voted best goalie by the media and directorate....whoever that is. Gave a weak Finland team a shot at Gold and even beat Sweden 1-0 in the quarters. 2014- Olympics played in 4 of 6 games and was outstanding leading Finland to a shutout victory over the US in the bronze medal game. Still very curious to know specific details about him missing the semi finals. Regardless, he was excellent in Socchi.
Isn't 5-15 worse than bad? He's viewed as elite by many but he has a big glaring hole in his resume. I don't blame the goalies for stats much at all, especially in Boston's system. If he gets to take credit for 28-19, he gets credit for the 5-15 too. I word: Montoya
yes. just posting the other number also. he hasnt won the Stanley Cup in his 3 years as the starter in Boston. Montoya played very well in some big WJC games. i don't think that takes away from past WJC success for everyone/ every goalie though. lets not forget Justin Pogge too....his WJC success was a driving force for JFJ making Tuukka available.
oooohhhhh, nicely done. I'm not going to miss a chance to knock Joannie down Matty but his workload for 14' moves him up a notch in my book. I thought he was bailed out pretty well in Toronto series too, especially game 7. I was far less impressed with Joannie through the entire body of work in the 13' postseason than most. When it comes to a single game or best of 3, he is NOT my guy. Doesn't mean too much to me though, only when I talk to boston fans. I put most of the weight on the skaters and system in front of the goalie. As long as they don't suck, the difference is almost negligible in my opinon. It is nice to have 7 million cap hit in net and have to worry about big games though. ]:-> One more thing that I'll always remember Joannie for was when he gave up the 6 goals and the loss in the finals the story was Crawford''s glove hand. It makes me not like him. 3 years? Luzer.
he was. never claimed that he's invincible or can't throw up a stinker now and then. i thought he was amazeballs. not just in the Pitt series but also in the clutch low scoring games against NYR and the King. He was good for most of the Cup Finals I thought also. Not great but good. You switch goalies in that series and I don't know if the series even goes 5. i hope that you don't let what other people say affect your opinion that much, especially NBC. In that game though Tuukka wasn't very good and gave up some goals that Im sure he'd like back but Crawford was brutal there. Tuukka 6 ga on 47 shots CC 5 ga on 33 shots. Carey Price summed up nicely- ?I?ve seen a lot of scouting reports on lots of goaltenders throughout the league and that?s pretty much the scouting report on everybody,? Price told reporters in Brossard after practice. ?It?s the same for (Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask). It?s the same for me. It?s the same for (Tampa Bay?s) Ben Bishop. It?s the same for (Chicago?s) Corey Crawford. It?s a pretty irrelevant comment.?
lol, it does even though I like to think I'm above it. I don't think it impacts how I think of him as a player on the ice though. Free passes piss me off (Toews had one last year, bugged me for example, but it did nothing to change my opinion of Toews as a player). It wasn't just NBC with the "glove hand" thing, Lennie had it all over the place. Amen to that. That's why I look at team metrics before judging a goalie just on what I see and why I think most goalies are interchangeable. Consistency, the ability to "bounce back" (in any timeline), and workload tolerance are the biggest things I really concern myself with when it comes to goalies. I can't gauge the rest of that crap anyway. Like Miller, I thought the value was his durability, not his actual play compared to who he replaced. I thought it was a better long term than short term move, now they might not extend him though. Damn, this is a stat thread, let me change gears. Chicago's pk is at 91.3% Rick NASH is 0-52 and Marchand is laughing at him.
