WJC2018: Sweden's goalie (Filip Gustavsson ~ Pittsburgh Penguins) faced a blistering 9 SoG ... allowing 1 goal v Belarus.
Vegas Golden Knights are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and currently have a 9-game point streak (8-0-1).
We may have a team become a legitimate buyer at the deadline in their inaugural campaign. Still, we have to wonder if that would be in their long term best interest. Like every expansion team, they drafted for future rather than immediate success. Unlike most expansion teams, the VGK did not have another team competing for the e-draft players. They also demanded generous expansion draft protection rules (generous to Vegas), so the pool was much better * than in the past. It's fair to say that things went better than even they could have expected. (* Half a $billion will get you something these days.) Still, some of the pending UFA's were taken to flip for young assets in February. Will holding onto Neal et al help them this Spring, but cause regret in future years?
Vegas made moves in both directions, future and present. Any young players they have don't have to be given any signifigant contract for at least 3 years. They could resign any player they want, and why not? If it's all about winning, then do whatever it takes. Torts must be kicking himself for giving up wild bill.
TEH PHIL is currently tied for first in NHL with 22 PP points. He also has the 4th current longest games played streak. Hot Dog machine never break.
Another day... another record for Vegas Golden Knights. 6 straight wins. A first for any expansion team in their inaugural season.
William Karlsson is the proud owner of a brand record... first Hatty ever by a Vegas Golden Knight. Aaaaaaaahahahahaha! Suck it Neal!!!
Colorado Avalanche have won 10 games in a row and are in 8th place in the WC standings. BONUS: Bernier has won 9 straight games and passed Patty Cakes for the Avs all-time win-streak record (7).
Im not buying the Avs for a minute, theyre riding a streak and thats it. Their team corsi is terrible, their shooting % + save % is well over a 100, Jonathan Bernier and Nathan McKinnon have been playing like McBernier and Mc(?)McKinnon and that will certainly end, especially with Bernier. Avs wont be playing post season hockey. Ive also said the same thing about Vegas from the hop and I havent looked so good on that one.
in addition, Kerfoot has 11 goals w/ a 27% SP, Nieto 9 goals 22%, Landeskog 17- 16%, Raantanen 17 -16%, Mckinnon 23- 15% and so on. those numbers cant stand up for a season, goalies are way too good.
He's a small guy in todays game, you would have to ask him to stand on his head the rest of the year, I don't think so. I've seen how he loses his mojo quickly and can give up the cheapest goals.
Devils advocate... Well, the Av's are 3rd in scoring in the Western Conference, but 8th in GA. Take away the 10 game win streak and their very average, but the offense they have is what allowed them to rip off 10 in a row. Their 10 game streak came against some good competition too... they dumped, Toronto twice, New York Islanders, Winnipeg, Minnesota, Columbus, Dallas, Anaheim, NYR and the Sharks... no easy task. I suppose one could say they are only 2 lines deep and that's not going to cut it come playoff time, but even if they make the playoffs, that's a decent accomplishment.
