after the lockout, a vote was held about the introduction of the shootout. it's pretty clear at this point that the league is having buyer's remorse. when the vote was held, only two teams voted against implementing shootouts. detroit and chicago.
That's funny. I knew about Illitch and I had suspected Wirtz. I had no idea they were the only two. Good stuff. I'm guessing Dollar Bill wanted no part of it just so he didn't have to pay the ice crew for the extra 5-10 minutes of work, or he was just protesting the limited revenue sharing to weak teams. I do know he was infavor of anything that got people out of there faster if he couldn't cash in on liquor and concession sales.
one of the saddest things about this ongoing debacle is the death of the dry scrape. i'd still like pierre to be dry-scraped in lieu of the ice getting such treatment.
Some comparisons... Mario: Likely saved professional hockey in Pittsburgh when in 1999 he rescued the team from bankruptcy and became the majority owner of the Penguins. Patty: Has never been involved with ownership at the NHL level... Unless you count Jeremy Roenick during the playoffs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mario: Complained about the 2011 Pens/Islanders brawl, where he felt the league allowed goonery to over-shadow the game. Patty: Complained about the 2011 Pens/Islanders brawl, because he felt the goalie fight was too short. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mario: Making one of the most famous plays of his career in the Olympic gold medal game in 2002, he allowed the puck to slide through his legs so that teammate Paul Kariya could score. Patty: A few months later, paid tribute to Lemieux during Game 7 versus the Red Wings by allowing several pucks to slide through his legs all game long.
That brings his total to 14 goals allowed over three games, which calculates to a 4.72 goals-against average and a .846 save percentage. All three games were at home. Next 8 of 11 on the road. Spoiler tuuuuuuuuukkkka
Staff is very serious 'bout his music. This compounded our frustration with him when he was in BUF. He was one of the most streaky up-and-down players I can ever recall. I think in his down periods he was thinking too much about music and not enough about hockey.
