Yeah, I doubt they'd be in a package. If TM is serious about getting ROR then Grigs would almost certainly go to Denver to be reunited with his Quebec coach. Actually, this is the one place I could see both packaged in a deal with the Avs. First, CO would need a lot more than just Grigs, and they really need D. Otherwise, I could see Zads moved to a team that really needs to replenish their D stock - there are a lot of teams in that category. I don't want either player traded, but the #2 pick is probably the only untouchable asset in the entire organization, (and of course they'd move that if EDM were willing to make a stupid trade).
The leafs had mogilny for a while, he did alright with roberts, had problems staying healthy though. He owned a $7M house in the city, sold it and left town.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/hockey/etc/who.html Russian players were being extorted by the russian mob in the early years.
Yes, he scored 76 G in 77 GP in '92-'93. He wore #89 because that is the year he escaped the USSR. There were very frosty relations between the USA & the USSR from the time Jimmy Carter boycotted the Moscow Olympics to when the USSR imploded. Buffalo has probably had their fair share of Russians since then, notably Maxim Afinogenov, who was stupid fast. Unfortunately, "stupid" does not compliment his speed; it refers to what he did know what to do after blasting past all defenders - namely to shoot the puck at the net.
http://twitter.com/GunnerStaal/status/603731816466481153/photo/1 I hope the link opens, it shows MAF's EVSV% for the playoffs from 2006-07 through 2013-14. In case the link doesn't open, these are the approximate stats for each year: Season MAF League Ave. 2006-07 .889 .930 2007-08 .939 .936 2008-09 .914 .925 2009-10 .908 .919 2010-11 .909 .925 2011-12 .886 .930 2013-14 .931 .920 This does not indicate that MAF was lackluster in most post-seasons - he was a sieve. Some like to argue that he had no D in front of him for several of the down years. Those that know the game better than I can correct me if I'm wrong on this: if his GA were bad, but the SV% was ave. or good, then I think we could put the Pen's playoff disappointments on the D. But a bad SV% indicates IMO that the G was the problem.
The Ottawa Senatore re-inaugural season of 1992-93 was less than ideal. their away record was 1-41. Defenseman Norm Mciver lead them in scoring while being -41. and they had Turgeon and Hull on their roster! Sylvain and Jody.
Although a couple Russians played before Mogilny, they were not great players. And I don't think they were forbidden by the Soviet Union to play in the NHL. But the talent Mogilny had and that he was forbidden by the Russian government to move out of the country to play in the NHL, you had to think Mogilny was always looking over his shoulder because he snuck out. I remember when it happened and thought he had a lot of balls as there always could have been a hit put out on him by the Russians. I always gave him credit for that........and his game...... As far as the Penguins go, they haven't had a healthy team in the last 4 years. Maybe they can make it 5 this coming season.......Fleury was good this past season. Probably the best season in his career so far. The problem was the team around him was never healthy and they couldn't score goals. Whereas the other years it was the complete opposite.....As I mentioned before, they were so banged up they had to play with 5 defensemen in quite a few games because of the cap rules.......
Dong Lei - the new Chinese internet sensation model whose legs are as tall as a 7 year old. Sadly, her brother Long Dong, comes up short.......
Dong Lei (is that pronounced "Lay"?)... How appropriate. Just to go on record, I've never seen a 7-yr old with legs that long. So if I kneel down erect in front of her, my face should be... you know what, never mind. I'll ponder that on my own time. Can't have this conversation without mentioning the Donger.
American Pharaoh is the first triple crown winner since 1978. He is the 3rd Triple Crown winner since the last Flyers Stanley Cup though.
According to schedules on CBS, it appears TB beat MTL in a shootout. Chicago is undefeated in the shootout this postseason. *BYE*
Interesting Stat: Teams holding a 3-2 series lead in the final have won the Stanley Cup 26 of the last 32 times that's 81.3%.
For me, this is fun: The Sabres' last two first picks in the first round have scored the GWG in the WJ tourney. Ristolainen scored the winner for Finland in 2014, and Reinhart did the same for Canada this year. Am I a little late reporting this? It's never too late to cite a fun stat.
TSN posted an interesting report on 6/25: Statistically Speaking: Expected Value of NHL Draft Picks. It's not as timely on July 3rd as on draft day but I still think it's fun stats. It ranks all draft picks by draft position from 1990 through 2010, and assigns a value from 10 to 1 for each player selected. 10 = Generational... 1 = 10 or fewer NHL games. It goes on to give Average Ratings for positions and for draft position. At top of the draft - top 5 picks - (top 30 picks) the average ratings are: - Forwards: 7.22, (5.04) - Defensemen: 6.85, (4.69) - Goalies: 7.30, (4.00) It sucks, statistically speaking, to have the #15 pick. It has a 3.10 rating; lower than any spot 1-29. As expected, the ratings for picks drops predictably the lower the spot. But the conclusion is that for teams wanting to build a winner should hoard picks rather than deal them away. More picks tend to offer the best results in the long run. Perhaps Sweeney will look smart after all.
