The better question when is the last time the Bears had that problem?

  2. Bear-man 11 Franchise Player Bears

Exactly. A “problem” we’ve been begging for since birth. Now all of a sudden people are worried about McCaskey’s bank account if they find a QB.

    Unreal.

Currently Foles costs about $20 mill per season. If he plays well enough to beat out Trubisky and be a legit starter that’s a good number for a starting QB. Allows the team to spend more money on the rest of team.

But if Foles does take over as starter and has just decent success he can void the deal and force the Bears to pay him more.

So yea it’s not the worst problem to have but it sure would be nice for Foles to become the guy and be locked in for a couple of seasons at a decent number.

    Just wow.

I know you guys are over $9m for Jimmy Graham, but I'm not. Foles to me has always been a guy that flashed but could never carry the full weight of a team. Is he legitimately pushing Trubs? Time will tell.

These moves frustrate me. They aren't blind, they know we need a TE, and a QB to compete with Trubs despite a lack of draft capital. And the FA market in general sucks. I just don't have a good feeling about it. I'm not upset, but as a few of you said, are we a better team after these moves? Not really.

Hoge and Jahns said that at the combine all the talk from the Bears camp was how not sold on Trubisky they were. So it seems like the new coaches aren't fans. Foles might really be there to push Trubs, and based on what I've seen, I don't think he's going to respond well to that. He will fold under the miniscule pressure.

One thing I am sure of. Pace is going ALL IN. If that wasn't clear from Mack, it sure as hell is with these moves + Quinn who is on the older side - he's priming them for more win now. I don't think this gets them over the hump, but at least he's not mortgaging FUTURE picks. The next GM will be able to attempt to assemble a roster.

So while most of us were sleeping, the bears restructured Cody Whitehair and saved 3.5 mil per NBCSN. I'm guessing moves in FA aren't done yet. The same article suggests the bears are looking at RG and SS in FA.

Were you in a coma in the 2017-2018 playoff run where he went 77 of 106 for 971 yards, 6/1 TD/INT, had 323 yards passing per game with a 115 QB rating?

How the hell can you say "he flashed but could never carry the full weight of a team"? He won a fucking superbowl and won the superbowl MVP after everybody wrote off Philly when Wentz went down.

I'm curious, what criteria meets your standard here? Because I'm gonna guess if your bar is set THAT high for what a QB should be, you're going to be disappointed. Those QBs are few and far between and teams don't tend to let them get away. Or in Ryan Pace's case, he ignores them/doesn't even meet with them or picks the wrong one after trading up.

But he runs the Andy Reid style of offense that Matt Nagy was a part of (not saying he executes it correctly). And even with this virus going on, likely leading to no rookie camps, no voluntary/mandatory camps, shortened summer camps/canceled summer camps, this guy doesn't have to "relearn 101" the way Mitch still does. He knows the system.

On top of that, everybody complaining that "he's a statue," he gets rid of the ball fast. Faster than Carson Wentz. 2.19 seconds for Foles and 2.49 for Wentz during the superbowl season (per 24/7 sports). Mitch in 2018-2019/the infamous year of Barfey? 2.65 seconds. Which declined in 2019-20 due to Mitch trying to pocket pass.

We're going to be back in QB purgatory because Mitch isn't it. Foles may not be it, and he's by no means a sexy pick up, but the bears could do a lot worse in replacing Chase Daniel and lighting a fire under the ass of the guy they traded up to #2 to get who sincerely regressed after a solid 2018.

If Foles didn't have a SB ring....how would you feel about this deal?

Remove that win against the Pats and there is no way anyone is trying to sugar coat this at all.

What you have when you remove the ring is a QB with a career completion percentage of just under 62% that has averaged 6 starts per season over an 8 year career and has had double digit touchdowns just twice and has never went north of 3000 yards in a season.

But you can't just remove that SB run. As Patg pointed out he played at an extremely high level on the biggest stage. It wasn't like a Trent Dilfer accomplishment. Foles was outstanding in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl. They won it because of Foles. When was the last time we had a QB on the roster who had already proven himself on the biggest stage?

His career high TD passes and rating is vastly better than Trubs. Not to mention his big game accomplishments.

Again, it's not like our QB problems are solved. Far from it.

But let me ask you this: if it comes down to the last game of the season in a must win for us to make the playoffs in 2020, who would you prefer under center?

I'm not trying to pretend it didn't happen. Just saying look at the rest of his career too. His name is legend because of that run. Desmond Howard was a SB legend too.

Yeah but so are a lot of other guys.

We got a QB that is better than Trubisky. That was the easy part.

It's not even a fair question because I'd pick Cutler before Trubisky. Fuck....I'd be more comfortable with Shane Matthews than Trubisky.

If you look at this move through anyone but Trubisky lenses....it's fantastic.

  10. patg006 M.V.P. Bears

This is a terrible and loaded proposition.

In your scenario, if Nick Foles doesn't have a SB ring, he wouldn't have gotten the big contract Jacksonville gave him, so the answer is moot because the bears wouldn't be dropping big money on him and restructuring his deal the way they're doing now. That, and he also probably costs cheaper than a comp 4th round pick to acquire, if he was even a tradeable piece.

I don't think its 'sugar coating' to say that the bears can do a whole hell of a lot worse than Nick Foles, even if you want to remove his career's success from the equation. Andy Dalton still would cost 17.7 million and Cam 20-whatever his number is. After those two bums, its the Nate Sudfields and Nate Petermans of the world as options, and I don't see anyone pining for that level of back up.

I also want to point out the reality of getting a franchise QB being very, very slim in the modern NFL. Tons of other teams are looking for the same guy too. Great ones aren't available, but that doesn't mean Foles can't have success here in a system he's had career success in.

  11. blang84 Legend Bears

That's the point. We have to look at it through the Trubisky lens cuz he's our fucking QB. I'd take Shane Matthews too. But right now in 2020, I'm fine with Foles being our plan B, maybe our plan A, after all the fuckups that Pace has made to this point.

All this move really illustrates is that Pace really fucked this franchise when he swung big and missed on Mitch.

And now we have a guy that could be good, could get hurt, has a big dick reportedly, and may not even win the starting job if it's an open competition and Nagy is the fuckwad making decisions.

I'm over here worrying about my job security because of the virus, and Ryan Pace is riding high on a contract extension. The world just isn't fair, man. No justice.

There is probably a parallel that can be drawn between Flacco and Foles when it comes to playoff runs, rings and getting paid.
