Just listening to 670. They said Quinn ended last year with 49 QB pressures, tied with Khalil Mack. Quinn did this on 116 fewer snaps.
I'd take my chances with Teddy over Mitch. There's nobody available who meets that criteria. A lot to pay for a 30 year old. But Quinn is definitely an upgrade over Floyd.
So, $14 mil / year (not knowing how the money or guarantees are spread). Same thing we'd be paying Floyd. If you're asking me whether I'd want Floyd or Quinn getting to the QB, it's definitely the latter. That said, I was hoping this was a position where they could create some cap space. If Quinn has a year like he did last year, that would be well worth it. Realistically, expectations should be set lower, but still an improvement over Floyd for the same money.
So that means Cam is a possibility. What about..... Tommy? Can we magically stretch our cap to accommodate $30 million?
Floyd being gone: Good. The rest is details. Of those details.....It feels like Quinn has been around forever, how old is that dude?? Surely doesn't see the end of this contract. I'm a little concerned about the scheme fit, as dline noted. Hasn't Quinn spent his whole career playing 4-3? Watching him last season tho he looked pretty light for a 4-3 DE so maybe it won't be problem. Can't help but note the lack of any OL moves so far. I know how much money is already tied up there but Pace is gonna have to do something cos they're a train wreck right now. Overall can't help but be happy about Quinn tho. The aim is to get better at every position and the Bears have surely done that here. Playing on that line with Mack on the other side, Quinn should rack up a lot of sacks.
The guaranteed is $30mil. A big enough number but it would have to be to make a move like this. Hopefully structured to get out after no more than 3years if necessary.
^^^This Big part of the reason the Rams let him go (along with having to have to pay Aaron Donald a couple years back), dude isn't a 3-4 edge. To answer DLine's question, he has played in Wade Phillips' 3-4, but he wasn't a fit, so he went to Dallas and Miami, two teams where he was a down lineman.
Worth it? Not really imo. Always gonna get it? Defo. I actually thought he might get 24-25 given its silly season. My expectations won't be lower. For that money they can't be. And the dude just dropped into the best situation in the league, he might not see a double team all year. If he plays a full slate its 12+sacks and upwards of 50 hits/hurries for me.
He had 8.5 sacks his last season with the Rams. If he can get 7-10 playing across from Mack....I'll take it.
With Hicks in, I'll take it all day too. If something were to happen to Akiem though...this is the kind of money you hand to a guy who wins 1 on 1's.
Remember when Aggie almost had us convinced that Floyd was worth trading up for and was going to be a stud? C'mon back Aggie!
I remember watching Laramie Tunsil fall, that year, and thinking, "I bet Pace is still going to take Floyd". We all knew that's who he was picking. Then the trade up! Surely he's going to take the tumbling projected LT star! Nope. Floyd. Now, I get that Tunsil had those crazy pot rumors pop up last minute, but... it was always Floyd. No matter what, it was always Floyd. Floyd might've made more sense as a pure coverage LB. But the limitations he clearly had coming into the league are the same limitations he has now. I'll be interested to see what happens with him next. That's a LONG list, then. Wasn't it just the year before that he grabbed Kevin White at #7? I can't believe the team gave Pace an extension before last year even started...
That always felt like attempted character assassination too. We complained our asses off when Leonard Williams didn't quite fall far enough the year before.... I was sure Pace was taking Tunsil when that trade up happened. Dude is utter trash in the 1st round.
Edit*** AM670 afternoon guys saying bears matched and even beat Panthers offer, Bridgewater and his camp don't believe he'll get a "fair shot" here against Mitch for starting job. Fucking sad. Kevin Pierre-Louis leaving, signs for 1 year, 3.5 mil with the redskins.
I would've paid KPL. Was it that he might get a starting role there? I don't know WSH's depth chart. But that's not a good loss, when you're also losing Kwiatkowski. I question that intuition, that he won't get a fair shot. Chicago clearly isn't just looking for another backup, especially at that money. And Mitch's deal is up soon. I don't know, maybe they had info we don't, but it doesn't look like a situation where he'd get buried or benched for Mitch...
