Usually, it's only a set number of players. If you keep a player, then the following year draft, you lose a draft pick in that round. There are endless ways to play though...decisions and rules need to be made. It could be as simple as allowing you to keep 5 players, or as complicated as keeping a starting lineup with draft pick losses like I mentioned before..Really depends on how deep everyone wants to go.
I am going to post the roster limitations once I decide on a site to use. It might not be everyone's favorite, but SeeBS is leading so far with the ability for us to tweak the settings the way we want. We are looking at this for a starting line-up: QB RB RB WR WR TE K SPTP DL DL LB LB DB DB That's 14 starters with an additional 16 bench players. We are looking at the possibility of 1 IR spot and 2 practice squad players, 1 offense and one defense (kicker would be considered offense, special teams player would be considered defense). At the end of the season, all free agents are available until March 1st. Then transactions, including trading, close until the draft which will be held sometime near the middle of June. After the draft free agency will reopen until the first week of the preseason. The initial draft will be 32 rounds (to include practice squad players). Every draft after that will be 10 rounds. The deadline to put in your 32 man roster will be the Thursday that falls one week before the opening Thursday. At that time you will need to cut 10 players to get your roster down to 32. The free agent wire will remain open from that Thursday through Monday at 11:59pm, then it will close till after opening weekend is finished (both Monday night games) and will reopen in the normal waiver wire fashion with the worst team getting first crack and the best team getting last. From that point on the waiver will be open all season. The trade deadline is week 10 and draft picks are available to use in trading. All trades must be approved. There will be 3 commissioners (I ain't no Roger Dodger). 1 representing the league, 1 representing the Western Conference and 1 representing the Eastern Conference. We are still hammering out the scoring but it will be a combination of standard league scoring and bonus league scoring. If you have any questions, post them and I will get you an answer.
in my Yahoo league, i do have (2) WRs and (1) R/T/W flex. for the upcoming 2015 season, i'm thinking that i'll eliminate the "DST". since you have IDPs, the DST is redundant and its not really relevant for IDP leagues, only for "Standard" play where there is no other way to get defensive points.
The SPTP in this one would be a team unit. You would get no points for the defensive stats, just the special teams return yards/touchdowns.
Tim could you clear up the keeper discussion from earlier? I was always under the impression a Dynasty Team is a team built with a roster that you maintain year round. After the initial draft there is only a rookie draft each year to pick up the guys just selected in the NFL draft that year. So essentially every player is yours to keep for as long as you like with a max of 30 roster players. Is that not accurate?
Basically, yes, but there are some minor differences. There will be an initial 32 round draft with 2 players designated to the practice squad. These players can only be activated before the season starts, after week 5 and after week 10. During the time between they can not become part of your active roster. When a practice squad player is brought up, someone from the active roster has to go down or be cut. If a cut is made the practice squad spot can be filled from the waiver wire. At the end of the season you will retain 30 players. You can bring up practice squad players to retain and cut from the 30 active if you wish to retain one or both. Every draft after that will be 10 rounds and can be from the rookie or free agent pool.
This is going to be hard for us with no experience. Being green on the first one likely means being screwed every year going forward.
Not really, there's a lot of luck involved year one, but there is new blood being handed out every year. You will also find yourself with a plethora of one position and empty cabinet in another, which evolves into more trading than a traditional one and done fantasy league.
You will definitely need to understand the scoring and how it breaks down so you can get the best value on players. Other than that, it comes down to personal strategy and a certain level of commitment. For draft junkies, fantasy football heads and armchair GMs, it really doesn't get any better then a dynasty league that is full of dedicated owners.
That's the exciting part. Trades in traditional leagues involve short term thinking. Trades in Dynasty Leagues are more like the real thing. You are building a franchise, not a one-year wonder. Winning a Fantasy championship is still important but winning year-in and year-out is the goal i.e. building a dynasty. I can't freakin' wait to get started!
