From a dynasty perspective the only way I see picking #1 as a guaranteed advantage is if you were willing to deal that player in the first year or two as a means to build for the future. Otherwise, that wait from 1 to 24 is going to be very painful to watch.
That's a solid viewpoint and this is where a dynasty league differs from a standard or a keeper dramatically. It's like checkers and chess. The majority of quality teams will be built on the players that are chosen after round 10. The rest will be built through shrewd maneuvers, patience, good scouting and a little luck.
Honestly the absolute worst spots to pick are likely after the first few spots IF you like a player in the 1st that you think would have slid towards the end of the round. That's the same with any type of fantasy but it would suck to wait that long for #2 in a dynasty when you know you could have gotten him and picked sooner in round 2.
I appreciate that you didn't leave out the luck component. All great fantasy teams, like great sports franchises, need a lucky bounce from game to game or time to time. Truth!
As for the positions/gameplan argument, I think #1 has a great advantage in the start of a dynasty league much more than say a yearly. It is bittersweet to be 2nd. I feel so close to my #1 option, and yet so far away... It's a bit of an advantage picking #2. But as someone previously mentioned, I'm going to be frustrated waiting 20 picks to add my 2nd player.
I'm happy with the 11-spot. Basically, I get 2 top-15 picks to start things off. It sucks not hitting the upper 8 players which, typically, have an almost absolute value, but this league is a marathon and not a sprint.
I better figure out how this league works before I make to many bold statements. Eh, I'm still smata then most of you. Draft old Kickers early right? No Punters? Weak. My leagues play 2 Punters like Catchers in some bb leagues. Real challenging that way. Tom Tupa use to be wicked good.
ray guy won me 8 straight, although the raiders did punt a lot. smarta then most of you. don't make me sick doctor lulz on you for grammatical errors. geez, the more i look at expert opinions. i'm coming to the conclusion that i should draft every lion player early and often. why do i think tom brady should go in the top 8, well, cuz i'm drafting 12th. 12 and a half days until the draft, reminds of some tv thing. remember to draft defensive backs early.
I like picking 6th because I never have to wait more than 12 picks between my slots, at least 1 person is happy.
Also we have the Bombers and one guy using part of the Bombers (Winnipeg) logo. Old school CFL with the Roughriders and Rough Riders.
I always rooted for the Bombers growing up and used to follow the CFL when CBC Windsor 9 would show the CFL games regularly. I liked the CFL and still do because its football in the Summer and thats a good thing cuz i have a hard time waiting till the NFL gets started. Just a good football league. Dont follow it as closly as i used to because of the TV stuff, but still catch the Grey Cup every year. Blue Bombers rocked it back in the day, roughriders, Eskimos, Allouettes and Argos and Tiger-Cats are all can remember, lol. What the hell is a Red-Blue or a green blacks, lol ?
