WTF!!! Of all people I get stuck next to you....scratching head...yeah lots of words that sound like "fuqer" only spelled different and with mother in front of it gonna be spoke at my desk next week! Good luck all!
LMAO!!! I wanted to hit the button to mix it again so damn bad after seeing that. Not only did I get slotted in an area where I did not want to pick, but I got stuck next to the one person that is guaranteed to make my life miserable on draft night. *DRINK*
Yes, Thanks Tim for getting this all together so efficiently...Can't wait, this is going to be a lot of fun for years to come.
Hate my spot. Top few picks especially the top 2 have a huge advantage when it comes to a dynasty. Can't state more how lucky the top 2 are to get long term cornerstones at 1-2.
I know I could get some good guys at 9 & 16 and it could work out, but man the long term secured (minus injury) greatness at 1-2 is crazy compared to the rest. It's like 1-2 in this NHL draft for lack of another analogy.
Joe I think everyone will have different strategies when it comes to the top of the draft. You may find what you're looking for at 9. Now 16 is another scenario entirely because I'm picking at 15.
Ya it seems strategies can and will be way more diverse. I wasn't talking about strategy though because sticking to the earlier analogy I don't think taking the obvious guy at #1 is one. Now don't mistake this for whining. I'm just saying.
The guys you are looking at for cornerstones (and I would bet $5 on the top 2 you are looking at) could just as easily begin to struggle for multiple reasons. It's a luxury only as long as it lasts.
while it's no secret that no one knows what any player's future will be with certainty, i'd be hard pressed to imagine any GM in any sport thinking that picking first isn't an advantage
LOL. It may seem like I need cheering up but I don't. Heck I am still not done my research. I should find guys I like and may even get who I am targeting.
I've been in a keeper league for about a decade. When the original draft order came out there were a lot of people that were pissed off about picking late. I picked 7 out of 10 (in all my years of fantasy the 7 spot has been a tough one) and I went with Brian Westbrook. Now this is a heavy bonus league where you get double points on receiving TDs for RBs, rushing TDs for WRs, etc. Westbrook was a top 5 fantasy player in this format 2 years running so getting him at 7 was at the time I really good value. Then bang, Brian goes down with an injury that season and he never really was the same. I never ended up keeping him and went with lesser value. The number 1 pick went to an owner that selected Shaun Alexander who just came off of a record breaking season. He was the most coveted player in the draft at that time and we all know what happened after Shaun got paid. Being #1 gives you the advantage of having whatever player you want. It also gives you the disadvantage of watching the next 23 most valuable players fly off the board so if the first pick goes belly up your chances of recovery are with the rest of the draft are diminished a good deal compared to the rest of the field.
I think this years draft and a few from last years are rich in potential, which adds to and makes a prime 3 and 4 year group of players too. I wont tip my hand, but am looking forward to this type of draft (first one of this type for me). Needles to say i have tons of ideas and a entire WEB of advice and charts... more data than data can be used. This is exciting and fun homework to do for a few minutes too. Sure hope i have that beginners luck, again and again. Always fun to utilize the defensive players too, thats a great touch. ...and one more thing. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRAFT THE PLAYERS I'M DRAFTING... THIS IS A NO- NO !!1!1!! ____________________________________________________________________
Very true!! It's agonizing sitting there watching your entire draft board get chewed up for 22 picks before you get another shot. I agree wholeheartedly, if that #1 pick gets injured, you are set back for a year at least. But, that's true of everyone in the league. I pray more for a healthy roster, than a higher pick. That's how you consistently compete year in and year out.
A lot of truth in that. Plus personal strategy comes into play regarding how you intend to build your franchise in future drafts. You could nail your first 3, belly flop the rest and never recover in future drafts if you can't get the components you need on your roster. That is why it's a must that you have IDP in an equal number to offensive starters for a truly great dynasty league. We have some really good minds in this league and it should make for some interesting seasons. Just off of the conversations you and I have had about the draft over the last 3 years Irish it's safe to say the banter should be strong in this league. *DRINK*
