The Cleveland Browns have made the following roster moves: Signed to practice squad (13): DT Jowon Briggs CB Tony Brown II WR Jaelon Darden S Christopher Edmonds CB Justin Hardee Sr. T Germain Ifedi DT Sam Kamara T Roy Mbaeteka (International Player Pathway Program) WR James Proche II LB Winston Reid LS Rex Sunahara T Lorenzo Thompson WR Michael Woods II
Just so I'm clear on your line of thinking: Are you saying that you would not be willing to give up Winston for anything less than a 3rd? And to clarify on my end: I don't consider any of these 3 a 'hot commodity'. I'm just looking at a market value comparison between the 3.
Hell no… I’d take a 6th What I’m saying is, with Watson’s history of not playing full seasons, his experience compensation should be worth that… no other team will have him above a 6-7th value because they don’t have that recent history with the QB necessarily. BUT, for a 7th rounder, I’d keep the experience and the $4M in dead cap.
The previous post left me confused. Might be the way I read it. What you posted the first time read like the only way you would give up Jameis, because of his experience starting and the likelihood of Watson missing time, is if someone was willing to grossly overpay (3rd round pick). This would make him a 'zero' commodity on the market, because no one would be willing to do so. Basically, the Browns value for him trumps the market. I agree with that, which is why I posted what I did in regard to what I perceive should be Cleveland's preferred option in the quarterback room: Retain Winston/Huntley and trade DTR. My opinion is that the market for DTR likely never materialized with anything close to the compensation they might have been looking for, which probably started with the pick value of the player (5th round). Huntley may not be adapting well to Stefanski's scheme, which would make his moving off the roster a bit more palatable for the coaching staff, but my personal preference would be to keep him over DTR. None of this would change the idea that within those 3 players the obvious (IMO) higher value on the market would be Jameis. He has the draft pedigree, the starting experience and the physical build, and these 3 qualities are not found in either of the other options to deal in a trade. I think that value is also reflected in the reporting that the Browns likely never even considered moving Winston off the roster. Put that together with Cleveland informing DTR that he will be retained and the odds that Huntley may be on the move for peanuts, or cut, begin to rise. That's not the move I would make, but I'm not part of the coaching staff that drafted DTR, so it's obviously a different lens I'm looking through.
May I interject? With the Browns retaining 4 QB's on the 53, which Ive never heard of before, maybe that indicates the Browns arnt exactly sure what to do and are simply trying, in their best way, to find the most return for any of the QB's not named Watson? In my opinion, which is not the most knowledgeable... Id go Winston and Huntley on the 53 and cut bait with DTR only because at this moment in time, DTR shows potential, but not consistently, and you cant beat the experience of Huntley and Winston to back up Watson if he were to go down again, heaven forbid. $0.02 Thanks for reading and considering.
Just after I posted my previous response, I heard that the rules had slightly changed in regard to being on the first 53 and the impact of IR. I haven't looked into it to understand it, but naturally I was unaware of the change. My thought on Huntley being released is that Barry wanted to find a way to maximize his value either by ways of a trade or finding a way to keep him. Perhaps he was kept on the 53 to allow the "qb pieces to fall" if no trade materialized, and nobody would want to move on from something they just invested in, and this allows him to "sneak" onto the PS.
Now counts 73M against the cap in '25 and '26. This can be mitigated by simply rolling over a large portion of the 62M in cap space they created with the move but it makes me wonder what the motive in restructuring was?
But what's the point? Just feel like shelling out a bunch of money up front because Deshaun's a swell guy?
So, the same Watson I have seen almost every time he’s played for the Browns. Well worth all those first round draft picks and $250M fully guaranteed. What a piece of shit. May as well start Winston or DTR.
Watson doesn’t have a clue how to step up into the pocket. Everyone blames the offensive line, but every time there’s the slightest hint of pressure, there’s room to step up into the pocket and he instead takes off for the outside. He fucking sucks!!!
Watson is. Limp dick, er lame duck, QB. He’s has his guaranteed money, absolutely zero incentive to do anything the rest of his career and it shows. Worst trade, worst contract in NFL history.
