I don’t agree. I think a multiverse can work without intelligent design. The purpose of early life was somewhat aimless. Eat, survive, reproduce. Even our early ancestors followed that model. I don’t think having a personal purpose requires a deity or creator.
This is an interesting topic and ive enjoyed reading it so far. Its kinda cool how we all as humans being human beings have our different idea's about things. Makes for good convo, debate and gets the inner-thoughts of the brain churning. Some times, if not most of the time, I don't comment on such matters with people because of the conflict that usually prevails, but here, so far the conversation has been very well kempt... I appreciate that... good on all of you...…………………………….. so far, lol.
I think there is a point that can never be answered, when you couple this statement with - Now, if we base it from the viewpoint that there is no creator and that all of this is happening at random, basically through a somewhat organized chaos (no direction but a set point of rules and variables built on those rules) then we can simply right it off as everything within our lives is a self absorbed happenstance. But, if you flip the coin and go with an intelligent creator it opens up the possibility of the design being so far beyond are comprehensive abilities that the mere fact that we don't understand any of it is proof that it is more than what we could ever grasp, based on the idea that we cannot create or change any of the rules that dictate our universe. The latter of those two has some basis for why I maintain some of my belief, the other is a manner of paying respect to those that were much wiser than me, that put the time in to rise my narrow ass with some proper principles and love, so that after making a lifetime full of mistakes in haste I would still be level headed enough to pull myself out of self made craters to get back to the sunlight. The idea that there are fundamental elements, rules regarding physics and other governing instruments within our universe that we are still learning about, and that I have no ability to recreate or change them by simply applying will makes me question how it was originally created. If there was nothing before there was something, there had to be something before the nothing. If not, there is no impetus for change from nothing.
I'm not a particularly religious person. But I do believe there is some form of higher being. Much like I can't see, hear or touch wind but I can see, hear and touch it's affects so I know it exists. I'm not religious because, IMHO, one does not need a group of humans to dictate how one leads his or her life based on a set of "rules" whose basis is, essentially, anecdotal.
I think most educated atheists will tell you they don't reject the idea of some sort of creator....be it an energy force, some higher celestial being we can't fathom, or an ancient cosmic computer system.....because we don't know enough to know what we don't know. Atheism is more a rejection of man made Earth religions than anything else. As Ricky Gervais says...there's been something like 3000 or so gods created by man throughout history and most people on the planet today reject 2999 of them....atheist just reject one more. There could certainly be a creator or a creating force. Logic might even dictate there has to be and the question becomes if it's a sentient being or not. This is one of those never ending thoughts again that will keep my brain on overdrive and not allow me to sleep. How could there have ever been nothing? But could there have always been something? Neither works. And it's mind numbing, frustrating, fascinating, and terrifying all at the same time. Falling back on the simulation idea....it's amazing how many of those rules regarding physics work so much like a computer system. I know this is a conversation with no actual answers.....but I still really enjoy it.
Does life have a purpose? It must. What else could be the reason for being. I believe 'the purpose' is in the eyes and head of the individual. A free-will is what gives us the ability to make choices and to believe what we wish. Without purpose, life is meaningless, confusing and in my opinion would be a waste of time. It seems to me that the ultimate purpose IS the quest for what is the purpose and meaning of life. That's where it becomes very personable and up to individual interpretation. I have my personal beliefs, based on what I' consider evidence and factual, tangible examples of what life should be, but at the same time, I honor and respect others to see things differently and have different opinions. One thing im certain of, beyond a shadow of doubt, is that we all will, eventually, come to an understanding of what was, is and should have been our purpose. I hope everyone realizes their purpose in life before , by circumstances un-seen, it becomes too late. I have a purpose and its comforting to know it and not have to live without understanding or fathoming what it might be.
Yep, you can invert the 'something' and the 'nothing', because the nothing in itself would actually be the something if it was the only thing before the current something. I like to try and view infinitism in both linear and exponential models (I'll stick with linear for now). If you draw a straight line in time back the the beginning of time, how was time created and what would be the reason or justification for the creation of time? Time cannot simply be a derivative of man looking to place a clock on his own existence, because all things have a manner of decay that places a timer on their existence as well. Then, if you invert time to say that even though we view it as a countdown to our own eventual reality it could also be a count up towards an event that redefines the entire order of all things, possibly resetting what we perceive as the original countdown and beginning the whole cycle again. The latter ties directly into this - Hard line rules define any and all things. The idea that we as a people are moving towards an even more rigid system by not only being confined to the laws of the universe as we know it, but adding more through our technological advancements that in turn make us dependent on those same technologies is a touch unsettling. We are already cybernetic organisms to an extent, reliant on technology to survive and even changing the speed of how we retain and recall information. Don't have an answer? Grab that piece of plastic in your hip pocket that is connected to a source of limitless information and get it at a speed only contained by how quickly your thumbs can hammer it out. And this is why I believe open minded atheists and believers should be the people at the front of the stage discussing just how much religion should be involved in our government and day to day lives. Being able to have this viewpoint coupled with empathy for the other sides point of view should be able to bridge divides and create pathways for common sense ideals between the two. Unfortunately, common sense speaks in whispers and ignorance screams in rage.
Does all life have a purpose...or just humans? Was the rest of life put here to help fulfill our purpose? And by the rest of life I mean everything from plankton and algae to elephants and zebras.
Yes. I believe wholeheartedly that ALL life is purpose full and exist for very special and designed purposes/reasons. I never bought into chance or happenstance... something or someone is in charge and control, lol.
A dogs purpose is to get its owner to put that alpo in its bowl and let it out for a walk a couple of times a day.
If it was, imagine the mind that is so organized that it could line everything up in a manner to create an organized chaos that quite literally feeds off of itself. The stuff of artificial intelligence that mastered the ability to learn at rates that we cannot fathom? At that point, would it not also be considered a sentient creator? The simulation theory ties in this along with the ability for multiverse in a seamless fashion.
Alright so here's where we get truly mind blowing. Does time actually exist? Our "time" does because we made it. But outside of that is time a real thing? Will technology and robots and so on be the key to figuring out our purpose or the blockage that prevents it? There is the idea that we will someday unlock the supercomputer that can answer any and all questions...the technological singularity that either makes us immortal or kills us all. This is all too true.
Cool....why then did it take so long for humans to come along? Was that something or someone just experimenting with different life forms before it decided to settle on us? Or did some celestial being just do a science experiment and let things work themselves out however? What I'm getting at is if we were "created" for a purpose....the process of our creation is really odd to me.
Their purpose would be to bring happiness to people lives, they really do make a difference to peoples well being.
It all comes back to the damn simulation. At this point I guess you can only hope no one ever pulls the cord that is powering it.
I believe so. Time is what time it is. 'does anybody really know what time it is?' Seriously... if you consider the day and night separations along with the seasons and the circular rotations of the cosmos, time is definitely real and absolutely precise, imo. Time is necessary to differentiate between things that really matter. Ive run out of time, back in a few.
