  1. no way does that go well for his career. and if this is his first game in the bigs it may be a long night with the Tigers crowd

with Stephen Drew now out of the picture Im curious to see how DBrow handles the SS spot. Romine is barely MLB caliber drfensively and he leaves plenty to be desired at the plate. I love Dombrowski and think the world of him and I know he'll do something. I really thought he was gonna get Drew after June 6 but the Sox mustve sensed that. What a dumbass Drew is by not taking that contract last year. It cost him a good 4 mill, and now that the Tigers are out of the picture I only have one thing to say. Have fun watching from the sidelines in the postseason. your best chance was here, but just like JD(although he got paid way more) your decisions speak volumes about your intelligence

I'm not convinced with Romine either and Danny Worth has been OK, but to me, there still remains a hole at SS that I wish could get filled with a championship caliber player. But, the things I've read sounds to me like DD is going to stay in house the rest of the way. Defensively that spot has been just OK, but there not getting much offensive production from that part of the lineup.

Was a nice lift to see Sanchez stop the bleeding with a real good performance last night. I was wondering if he would get back to form soon.

The shortstop position for the Tigers has been a problem since at least 2006. And while there have been a few rays of hope

Carlos Guillen compiled 9.5 WAR (per Fangraphs) in 2006 and 2007.
Jhonny Peralta performed well at the plate in parts of the 2011 and 2013 seasons.

the Tigers currently have no mlb talent on the horizon (Jose Iglesias not included).

Looking at some of the shortstops the Tigers have used in recent seasons

    Ramon Santiago
    Edgar Renteria
    Adam Everett
    Danny Worth
    Neifi Perez
    Alex Gonzalez
    Michael Hollimon
    Brent Dlugach

    illustrates the point.

The Tigers need to get compensatory performances out of other positions to cover shortstop.

That said, I still have hope that the Tigers can make it to the World Series this year and win!

Romine got himself a 4 base jack the other night. Maybe he finds his stroke.

It is a long season so one bad turn through the rotation is not a killer. This needs to be "the exception to the rule" in terms of Detroit's starting rotation.

Well at least they won something this series - 2 out of 3 caught stealing.

Porcello confirmed directly after the game that he was fine and not injured. Thats the first thing i was curious about, because he was unlike himself out there.

Tigers call on JV today to stop this starting pitching downward spiral. If they ever needed a good start from a starter, its right here, right now. He should be the man to do it.

When do the Tigers get a long relief guy? Who is it now?

Justin Verlander used to be "money in the bank." Now he seems to be more hit-and-miss as his 5-4 record suggests. Verlander needs to get back to being the "Verlander of Old."

This period of Tiger baseball will show us what Brad Ausmus is made of. Can he hold things together and get the Tigers back on track? Or will the Tigers have hot and cold periods leading to a slightly above .500 record?

I have faith in Brad Ausmus as a manager and the Detroit Tigers as a team.

  17. damn, we didn't need that right before a big showdown with the A's. I think if Danny Worth wants to stay in the majors hes gonna have to do what Wakefield did. Wakefield was projected as a solid hitter with some power at 1b when he was drafted but like so many players once the aluminum bat is no longer used -the numbers tank. He had a great career and knuckleballers are few and very useful to a bullpen. he could toss long relief or even spot start if needed. If I was Ausmus I would be working diligently to get him going in that direction

You know what I think, and its just a casual idea...Verlander is in a transitional time in his career. A few years ago he could bring the gas and even crank it up a notch late in the game and hit 97 and 98's consistently, with some stuff even higher. Now, he's a 93's kinda guy, and really has to pitch strategically instead of just throwing BB's. Ive noticed his velocity has been down a couple and maybe he's just trying something different. Its really much harder to gauge when it isnt only JV, but Scherzer too...all of the starters outside of Sanchez's last start have been getting lit up. Thats really strange, and i hope a unique situation. I suppose its possible more than one pitcher can slump at the same time. Things were going just perfectly there for a while... and its tough to have everybody firing on all cylinders at the same time for a sustainable period of time.

Anyway, I believe it will work itself out. They are just to good and experienced to fall flat and not know how to pick themselves back up.

2 runs on 13 hits the other day doesnt help. Gotta put them together some how, and put some 'crooked numbers' up.

No I have not given up on the Tigers. Unfortunately they are getting it handed to them once again. So I decided to look at what other things were transpiring.

Well it is good to see that Jose Valverde didn't still have something left after the Tigers cut him loose. Say, I wonder if they would be interested in Phil Coke? ;) O:)
