Alex Avila a late scratch with back spasms. Bryan Holaday will take his spot in the lineup and behind the plate.
I wish the best for him. Going to have to pay a little closer attention to him. The Tigers can use all the help they can get from the arms in Toledo. Its more than likely the only road for help the bullpen is going to see this year.
Holaday does great in replacement of Avila, 2 hits and an RBI. Tough luck Verlander, doesnt get the win, but the Tigers hang on for a 4-3 victory. Forgot to mention, Holadays hit was a bunt in the 9th to knock in the winning run.

On a side note, reading about Shane Halter and Bobby Higginson brings back memories. It is too bad that the Bobby Higginson era is defined by every season being a losing season. Refer to next post.
http://blog.detroitathletic.com/2012/02/09/unfortunate-timing-the-career-of-bobby-higginson/ I knew each of Higginson's seasons with the Tigers were losing seasons. I just learned that he never was on a winning team in college or the minors. It is a testiment to Bobby's character that he played hard every season even though team expectations were not very high. Hat's off to Bobby "Job" Higginson.
Very very curious to see what Fister brought back in a trade. DBrow is impeccable at finding young power pitchers which has endeared himself to me greatly. I hope this is no exception. I'm expecting a lot from this kid long term. Making a point to watch this game
This helps out a lot. Good news Tigers fans, from mlive... The Tigers signed Joel Hanrahan to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday. The 32-year-old will reportedly earn $1 million guaranteed with a chance to earn $3 million.

if donnie baseball's in the lineup, i'm marking this one down as a win, with my indelible sharpie marker.
lol... I thought of you when i saw the lineups. I like donnie baseball btw, it has a nice ring to it. Others can have their Johnny Football, the Tigers have donnie baseball. Kelly is 1 for 6 against Shields, but Castellanos needed a break at 3rd, so he gets the night off.
