I will make it a "hat trick" in that I dislike this move as well. Tom Brookens is well repected by the current Tigers roster. Letting him go would be a big mistake. Continuity is a value that a team like the Tigers needs to keep contending. Brookens could be in line for 1b coach - which is a position that he has previously held. It would not be starting on the right foot to let Brookens go to Seattle (Lloyd McClendon) or Ariziona (Kirk Gibson, Alan Trammell). Now that the three of us have flat out stated that Tom Brookens needs to remain with the Tigers, there is no way that Ausmus can let him go. Are you listening Brad?
Wow that should tell you something. 12 years in the league and no one knows who the hell you are except brad ausmus. Don't have to be a great major league player to be a good coach (Pete rose blew) but on a team this close that's been together this long I think respect is important and no way would a player give more to him than Brookens. Again bad move
Max Scherzer is a 29-year-old that 1) put up numbers of 21-3, 2.90 ERA, 0.970 WHIP, 240 strikeouts in 2013. 2) is 73-45 with a 3.67 ERA in six seasons with Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Tigers may decide to trade Scherzer while his value is at his highest.
Im very curious what teams would actually offer for a guy with his credentials. I guess we will see what the market has in store. Im hoping he would be happy to stay in Detroit. Some tough decisions down the road.
Porcello is a 24-year-old that went 13-8 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.282 WHIP in 2013. He doesn't have the trade value of Scherzer but would be easier to replace in the rotation.
Im cool with Nathan, and if DBrow goes after someone he gets them. I think it happens sooner than you think. Dave isnt like Holland, he doesnt sit on his ass in the offseason. Hes a busy bee in Nov and Dec
i can live with nathan, even if he has two first names. i draw the line at three. jason pierre-paul should be ashamed of himself.
I think Im leaning more towards Nathan. Its possible Wilson has a screw loose, or two, and he definitely has a history of health concerns. Out of the two choices, I would pick Nathan.
Max Scherzer wins the Cy Young Award. He recieved 28 of the possible 30 first place votes, beating out Yu Darvish. Good for Max!
