Miguel Cabrera is scheduled to have surgery today, on torn groin tissue. When asked if rest would have been an option for Miggy, down the stretch, he said; no.
Good news...everything went fine and he is now recovering. He is expected to be ready and fully recovered before Spring Training.
lol. I'll say he is, whomever it turns out to be. Someone is going to step into a real nice situation with these Tigers...their built to win it all right now. Just need a few pieces tinkered with, but not much change is needed. I went to many games when Leyland was coach, and one of the many positives i learned about the guy, was his devotion and dedication to his players. It was always fun to get there early and watch Leyland at work with the players. They were very loose and always clowning and joking around, mixed with some, what appereared to be instructional type stuff. My point is Leyland had what appeared to be great relationships with the players, and I hope that can be a quality in whoever the new skipper turns out to be. Someone who the troops can rally around.
That's kind of disappointing. I thought he played extremely well this year; when called upon. Now who backs up Avila?
...and you have guessed correctly. This from mlive: So there you go. Tigers had 7 free agents to deal with this Winter, that is now trimmed down to 6 with Scherzer being the biggest one, imo. I didnt realise Pena' numbers were this good for the Tigers, .297, 4 HR's and 22 RBI...not bad at all.

My understanding is that Max Scherzer is a free agent after the 2014 season. (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/max_scherzer/) And yes the Tigers need to decide what to do with Scherzer (trade for a delux package or extend him). The free agents according to the Detroit Tigers offical website (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/det...md=20131031&content_id=63373198&vkey=news_det) are Free agents: RHP Benoit, RHP Jeremy Bonderman, RHP Octavio Dotel, 2B Infante, [del]C Brayan Pena[/del], SS/LF Peralta, IF Santiago
Good post, thanks for putting up the FA's. Infante at second is very interesting. I wonder what going to happen there. Scherzer is a tough call to make.
Personally; I would love to see Benoit, Infante, and Peralta back. The rest do absolutely nothing for me.
Benoit as a setup or closer...no need to say more. I would take Infante back at the right price but some team may just throw crazy $$$ at him. Peralta is a 3rd baseman or shortstop. Both of those positions are filled and Peralta is not a backup.
While not perfect in LF, he gave the Tigers a very viable bat that they didn't seem to not have there for most of the season.
True but that was for the playoffs - in which the Tigers were just not good enough. Peralta would be a DH candidate if Victor Martinez had played poorly. I just don't see a way that Jhonny remains in Detroit. Not saying I am happy with that- I'm not. Just saying.
BREAKING: Report: Detroit Tigers' Gene Lamont expected to return as bench coach under soon-to-be-named manager Brad Ausmus. So, now we know and the hunt is over, kinda surprising it didnt take a little longer, but I think Mr. D has been working on this for a while now. Its a good thing it didnt take longer, Tigers can totally focus on the business of patching up the team. Good luck Brad Ausmus.
Well for a first time managing, Mr. Ausmus sure has an excellent starting basis. And the Tigers have an up and comer as manager.
