Detroit finishes the season at 47-114 (53.5 games behind the AL Central Division Winning Twins). Will at least we can say we made it thru the season!
Thanks for riding along. I had a hard time coming down the stretch, because frankly the Tigers wernt hanging with football and hockey in my book, but we made it. I sure hope next season brings something to cheer about. Im looking forward to the MLB Postseason... should be a good one.
Tigers sign, Ivan Nova to a 1 year deal... The Tigers announced on Monday the signing of free agent pitcher Iván Nova to a contract. Jon Heyman clarifies that it is a one-year, $1.5 million deal that offers the right-hander the opportunity to earn more via incentives. Nova, who turned 33 years old yesterday, spent the 2019 season with the White Sox. Across 34 starts spanning 187 innings, he posted a 4.72 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 47 walks. ERA-wise, it was his worst season since 2015. His 14.1 percent strikeout rate was his lowest since 2014 as well. The rebuilding Tigers are hoping Nova can simply eat innings during this upcoming season, especially considering the number of injury-prone pitchers in their starting rotation. source; NBC
Curtis Granderson has announced his retirement from baseball. Granderson, 38, played 16 seasons for seven different clubs — the Tigers, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Brewers, and Marlins — finishing with a .249/.337/.465 batting line, 344 home runs and exactly 1,800 hits. Granderson made three All-Star teams, won a Silver Slugger Award, and finished in the top-10 in MVP voting twice. He led the American League in RBI and runs in 2011 and in triples in 2007 and 2008. Granderson is said by many to be one of the brighter and personally engaging players in the game and has long been talked about as having a future in a front office or, possibly, in the executive offices of the league or the union. His retirement statement does not say what his plans are, but he’s no doubt got a bright future in the game post-retirement. source; NBC
