The Tigers' 3-2 loss in Miami, coupled with Oakland's win late Friday, cemented Detroit (93-67) as a No. 3 seed heading into the American League Division Series next week. So, the Tigers will open the playoffs on the road, either in Boston or Oakland. Would have been nice to get the homefeild advantage, but thats the way it goes. Champions have to win on the road anyways.
Thanks, man. I have had a ton of fun doing this and other things on this great web-site. Its really cool to be able to share the games with others...makes it way more interesting. The best way I can see this Tigers year ending, is by winning it all. Its going to be real tough, but the Tigers are second to none in starting pitching and their pretty good offensively...I like their chances. Got to get through Boston or Oakland, that wont be easy. Been a great year.
If Alvarez is on the postseason roster I'll put my foot thru the TV.....ditto for AA Bondo and AAA Coke
Jim Leyland on Phil Coke: "Coke was checked out. There was some inflammation. He's probably not going to pitch this week. And that's the answer to that question." Remains to be seen what happens after this week.
congrats to the tigers pitching staff for setting the all time major league record for strikeouts in a season - 1406 now and counting.
Fantastic accomplishment. The staff turned out to be better than I anticipated before the season. Should bode well for a deep playoff run. Go Tigers!
Anibal Sanchez wins AL ERA title...congrats to him. He sure had a great season. For the second straight year, the Detroit Tigers will play the Oakland Athletics in the American League Division Series. This is going to be a tough one. The Tigers will have to be on their best game to take these guy's. The A's have played very well against Detroit during the season and are going to be very stiff competition. Anyone know the starting time and date for that first game, please post it.
In answer to my own question... With an A's loss Saturday at Seattle, the ALDS rematch everyone expected was set. Detroit will open its quest for a return to the World Series Friday night in Oakland, making its first trip to the West Coast in six months.

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp just dates, no times set yet. i imagine the page will be updated soon.
The bats have been silent for the entire month of September. The Tigers, who scored the second most runs in the MLB, scored the fewest in the month of September, tied with the lowly Twins. Sure hope the bats pick up in October, when it really matters. I think they will be alright.
