You're most welcome Will. And a BIG (or B1G) THANK YOU for all the hard work you have done and continue to do with this Tigers thread. You make it worth visiting.

Thank you StlCrtn for your contributions to this Tigers thread.

I am still hoping that the Tigers keep "October"-ing on before they keep "March"-ing on.

ATLANTA -- The Detroit Tigers still have a path to the playoffs, but it's much narrower than it was 24 hours ago and it requires help from another team.

The Tigers play the final scheduled game of the regular season on Sunday at Turner Field against the Atlanta Braves. By the end of the day they'll know whether it's necessary to play their 162nd game on Monday afternoon in Detroit, a tentatively scheduled make-up game against the Cleveland Indians.

Hours after the Tigers' loss Saturday night, the Seattle Mariners lost to the Oakland Athletics and were eliminated from the playoff chase.

That leaves three teams -- the Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles -- fighting for two American League wild card spots. Under no scenario can the Tigers win the wild card outright. The best they can hope for is to extend the season until Monday and force a tiebreaker game on Tuesday (and, in one scenario, a second tiebreaker on Wednesday).

To do that, the Tigers must win Sunday and either Toronto or Baltimore must lose.

Ace Justin Verlander (16-8, 3.10 ERA) will face Julio Teheran (6-10, 3.33) Sunday in the Braves' final game at Turner Field before moving to a new park in 2017. (Mlive)

It's over. No post season for the Tigers... they lose, 1-0. :(

And the 2016 Detroit Tigers season ends (unless they have to play Cleveland on Monday 10/3) with two consecutive losses.

On the positive side, the Tigers finished with a winning record.

You don't play Cleveland because the Rangers own the tiebreaker over them anyways. Too bad. I was hoping you'd win these last 2 to set a 3-way tie for the Wildcard. The Jays would have gone straight through and played the Tigers or Orioles who had an extra game.

Brad Ausmus led Tigers 'through adversity,' will return in 2017, GM says

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers made it official Wednesday: Brad Ausmus will return for a fourth season as the team's manager.

The Tigers exercised the 2017 option on his contract, but did not extend it beyond next season.

"Brad was instrumental in leading the team through adversity and with the development of our younger players," Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement. "The team improved from last season, and under the leadership of Brad and his coaching staff, the ballclub kept fighting, and remained in contention for the postseason. Moving forward we want to build off that progress."

Ausmus and Avila are expected to speak with reporters later Wednesday.

The Tigers went 86-75 this year and were eliminated from playoff contention on the final day of the regular season.

Ausmus, 47, is 250-234 in three seasons at the helm since being hired to replace Jim Leyland.

I don't think he did a bad job this year. Injuries killed this team from essentially the get go. There was only a hand full of starters that didn't miss extended periods of time this year. Just think if they had Maybin, JD, Cast, Zim, or Norris healthy all season. This team's window is still open.

That is the best reason to support Ausmus and I dont know of anyone available that could step in and do a better job.

I just hope Ausmus learns too. I think he could have been much better.

Anywho, he's the man again next year, so I support him. Hopefully he has a healthy roster to work with.

It's crazy to think that most Tigers fans wanted his ass canned after the '15 season. I think that was not only a valuable learning opportunity for him, but the rest of the team as well. It opened their eyesthat things aren't handed to them on talent alone. I'm looking forward to '17 and hopefully they're able to compete with Cleveland for a division title.

DETROIT -- Wally Joyner, the Detroit Tigers hitting coach for the last three seasons, will not return to manager Brad Ausmus' staff in 2017, the team announced Saturday.

Joyner, 54, plans to "pursue other interests in the game of baseball," the team said.

The status of assistant hitting coach David Newhan will be determined after the new hitting coach is hired.

All other Tigers coaches will return for 2017 -- bench coach Gene Lamont, pitching coach Rich Dubee, bullpen coach Mick Billmeyer, third base coach Dave Clark, first base coach Omar Vizquel and defensive coordinator Matt Martin. (Mlive)

    Miggy on the move? Really?

The biggest name to move this winter might not even be a free agent, as the Tigers are listening to offers on Miguel Cabrera, according to MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi. Morosi cites the Astros as a team with interest in the two-time Most Valuable Player, as they look to add finishing touches to their young, talented roster.

Cabrera, 33, is owed $212 million through 2023, with options in place that could keep him signed through 2025. The 11-time All-Star is still one of the best hitters in baseball; he hit .316/.393/.563 with 38 home runs and 109 RBIs in 2016.

For the Tigers to trade Cabrera while still contending, they'd have to receive quite a package in return.

Tigers had some brief talks with the Giants involving a JD Martinez trade. Apparently the Tigers are not crazy about signing Martinez to a long term contract.

I hope the Tigers and Al Avila arnt throwing in the towel and going full system rebuild.
