Im thinking second WC is their only shot right now. But, what if Cleveland blows a tire during the 2nd half kinda like the Cubby's have been doing and the Tigers get hot... anything can happen. Pitching needs to be better and should be getting healthier soon too. Need the old Zimmermann back, Verlander is good, stop the Sanchez thing and get some QS's from Boyd. Fulmer is nuts and i hope that continues. Speaking of Fulmer. He is my top candidate for ROY.
Tigers demote Anthony Gose after spat with Triple-A manager DETROIT (AP) ? The Detroit Tigers demoted outfielder Anthony Gose to Double-A Erie on Wednesday after he was in an altercation with Triple-A manager Lloyd McClendon during a game over the weekend. The Tigers announced that the 25-year-old Gose had his option transferred from Triple-A Toledo to Erie. They also said he'd been on the suspended list from Sunday until Wednesday. Toledo has been off from Monday through Wednesday for its All-Star break. Gose got in an argument with McClendon on Saturday and was removed from that game. "After collectively evaluating the situation in Toledo, we spoke with Anthony and emphasized our organization's expectations of him," Tigers general manager Al Avila said in a statement. "Most importantly, Anthony's transfer to Erie is a move to give him a fresh start to his overall performance as he works his way back to Detroit." The Tigers acquired Gose from Toronto in November of 2014 for second baseman Devon Travis. He hit .254 with 23 stolen bases in 2015, but he's been considerably less productive this season. Gose has hit .209 in 30 games with the Tigers in 2016, and he was sent down to Toledo in May. He's hit .185 for the Mud Hens, striking out 75 times in 184 at-bats. Detroit doesn't need to rush Gose back to the majors as long as Cameron Maybin ? who is hitting .341 this season ? keeps producing. But Travis was the Tigers' minor league player of the year in 2013, and he hit over .300 for Toronto last year. With Gose scuffling in the minors, Detroit isn't getting much return on that deal.

Justin Verlander on rebounding velocity: 'I never lost it; I wasn't able to use it' As the radar gun readings climbed into the upper 90s Friday night at Comerica Park, it seemed as if Detroit Tigers starter Justin Verlander was throwing with more velocity than he had in some time. Now there are stats to back it up. ESPN Stats and Information said Verlander's average fastball in Friday night's 4-2 win over Kansas City was 95 mph, his best single-game average in the last three seasons. The Royals swung at 17 fastballs up in the zone, whiffing 11 times. Verlander now leads the majors with a 26 percent miss rate when throwing a fastball. He has also struck out 25.6 percent of batters faced in 2016, his highest rate since he won the Cy Young in 2011. Verlander said his climbing velocity has been part of a process going back to last year, when he was coming off the first significant injury of his Tigers career. "You saw last year as the season went along velo got better and better. This year it's kind of a similar thing," Verlander said. "I never lost (the velocity); I wasn't able to use it. It's been coming along since the beginning of the season. I think with the last tweak I made before the start in Toronto, my velo' was really getting strong." (Mlive)

Absolutely. Sanchez is a waist of a spot too, unfortunately. I wonder what happened to him? Tigers shore up their pitching they will make a run, but there are too many holes right now. Hopefully when Zimmermann gets back things will get a bunch better.
