    Phillies dump the Tigers, 8-5.

Once again it was the pitching that failed.

  2. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Zimmerman (groin) is set to long-toss Friday before throwing a side session Sunday, Matthew Mowery of The Oakland Press reports.

Zimmerman has already had his upcoming turn in the rotation skipped due to a Grade 1 groin strain, but there is now a chance that he'll pitch on the Tigers' upcoming road trip when they travel to Anaheim. However, Zimmerman will have to clear a few hurdles first by getting through a long-toss and a side session before the Tigers make a firm decision on his status.

I like the way Boyd started and gave the Tigers a great chance to win the game... then Ausmus gives the ball to Sauhpold in a 3-3 tie. Saupold starts getting hammered and Brad leaves him in there. I dont understand it. They gave that game away.

But, at least Chicago lost again... things are way tight now.

A's pitcher Rich Hill takes a four-game winning streak into Sunday's series finale against Mike Pelfrey and the Tigers at the Coliseum.

Hill has dazzled in May, posting a 1.75 ERA in his last four starts. He has held opponents to a .183 batting average during that stretch, and has struck out 28 batters over his last 31 2/3 innings. His last start was the most impressive of the bunch, as he went eight scoreless innings on Monday against the Mariners and struck out six.

The 36-year-old lefty has been Oakland's most reliable starter this year, while the rest of the rotation has dealt with injuries and ineffectiveness. Hill credited his success this season to pitching with a simple, yet aggressive mindset.

"There's no secret solution," Hill said. "It's going out there and making a choice and a decision to perform with that mindset and attitude. More often than not, the percentages of success will fall your way if you go out there with a consistent, aggressive mindset."
Hill and Pelfrey faced each other on April 26 in a game the A's won, 5-1. Hill earned the win, striking out eight Tigers over seven scoreless innings, while Pelfrey gave up five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in the loss.

Pelfrey (0-4, 5.55 ERA) has allowed 67 hits and 10 homers in 47 innings this season. Opponents are hitting .347 off the right-hander, who gave up 11 hits in six innings on Monday against the Phillies.

Tigers fall to the Angels by a final score of 5-1. Another game where Justin Verlander is "lights out" until he falls apart. This time, he has help from Buck Farmer.

Detroit fails to take advantage of losses by every team in the division - with the exception of KC.

Tigers tied at 9 with the Angels in the top of the 8th inning. It looked like the Tigers were out of this one but they have not quit. That is definitely a plus for manager Brad Ausmus.
