lol...'nasty slider' was bad enough. My fault. Max pitched his way out of a bases loaded situation and picked up his 11th K doing it...whew.
What's wrong with nasty slider? And what is a slide piece - is it that thing on Blaha's head? Pitched for a while and never heard that term When was the last time anyone started out this strong. 19 out of 20 to start the season. That's justbawesome .and to think we got him for Edwin Jackson
1959 Pirates. In an otherwise inglorious Pirates season, ELRoy Face produced an 18-1 record. By winning nearly 95 percent of his decisions -- all in relief, by the way -- he produced the highest single-season winning percentage in the history of the game, .947. His record still stands, albeit on legs made shaky by the 2013 achievements of Scherzer. The Tigers' 3-0 victory at Citi Field on Saturday moved Scherzer's record to 19-1, his percentage to .950 and Face's record percentage moved in the general direction of the Has Bin. Not that Face is even borderline distraught by the prospect of being eliminated from the record book. Aware of the possibility -- or was it a likelihood? -- of Scherzer's gaining his 19th victory against the Mets, the former Pirates closer opted for an afternoon on the links near his home outside Pittsburgh rather than a few hours of personally monitoring the Tigers-Mets goings-on. Face's first reaction to news of the Tigers' lead after five innings Saturday was the standard, "Records are made to be broken," with this addendum: "Even mine." That was from an article on MLB.com.
'Nasty' slider isnt bad at all, and Scherzers was fooling alot of batters yesterday. He was trowing it hard and getting alot of downward movement on it. It fooled quite a few Mets. A 'slide piece' is just another one of the many descriptive words or phrases Rod Allen pulls out to describe stuff. Like 'country strong', 'we see ya, big fella', something along those lines.
He sure has my vote. Easy decision, imo. All the Tigers starters have been fantastic this season. Been alot of fun.
Here is a better answer to your question. Im a little slow this morning. Scherzer (19-1) joined Rube Marquard in 1912 and Roger Clemens in 2001 as the only major league pitchers to win 19 of their first 20 decisions in a season.
gotcha, yeah I really like Rod Allen. I mustve missed that one. Rod is one of the best in the biz IMO, he really knows his stuff. Ive watched games where I think I know what pitch is coming next and I guess wrong and Rods right. he never even was a pitcher. Hes top notch. Rod has quite a temper too believe it or not let me see if I can find the one where he goes ballistic on a pitcher when he played in Japan. he chases the guy all the way to the outfield, no one wanted a piece of him, funny as hell
here it is, Rod is not a happy camper. that pitcher is lucky Rod didnt get to him, he was soooo pissed
lol... that was one of the funniest things Ive seen in a while. Rod was in pretty good shape back then.
Tigers (76-53) go for the sweep over the Metropolitans this afternoon at 1:10. Porcello (9-7) vs Gee (9-8).
I really never heard that from Rod as many times as Ive listened to them. I listen to the games on the radio more now, I really like Dan Dickerson and Jim 'thats a nice area' Price. Usually doing yard work and have the radio on. I only threw 3 pitches when I played and that was one of them. theres plenty of ways to describe pitches I just never heard that one before. Hey, Rod made it way farther than I did, maybe thats a term used in Majors. Learn something new everyday
A no Kelly sighting in the lineup for today...but, his presence on the bench should rub off on Cabrera. Just a little goes a long way. 1. Austin Jackson (R) CF 2. Torii Hunter (R) RF 3. Miguel Cabrera (R) 3B 4. Prince Fielder (L) 1B 5. Victor Martinez (S) C 6. Andy Dirks (L) LF 7. Omar Infante (R) 2B 8. Ramon Santiago (S) SS 9. Rick Porcello (R) P 1. Eric Young (S) LF 2. Daniel Murphy (L) 2B 3. Marlon Byrd (R) RF 4. Ike Davis (L) 1B 5. Justin Turner (R) 3B 6. Juan Lagares (R) CF 7. Travis d'Arnaud (R) C 8. Omar Quintanilla (L) SS 9. Dillon Gee (R) P[/*] Martinez behind the plate. Hopefuly, there is another case of ben gay in the dugout. I said ben, haha.
thanks Will. on paper the Mets lineup is a joke, Im suprised theyve won as many games as they have. If Ike Davis is your cleanup hitter thats all you need to know. Think hes batting like .205 or something - terrible GO TIGERS!!!!
I raced like NASCAR to get home in time. Went out to fill up the van with gas and landed up filling the van with mulch too. 1, 2 cubic feet bag for $1. So I jumped all over that. I bought 12. Got a good workout in, loading the van and unloading it. Ya...me too. Ive never heard of half their lineup. Dont hear much about the Mets at all. Tigers need a big game from the likes of Santiago, Dirks, and Porcello. Thats what Im calling for. Cabrera just 5 back in the HR chase...nice if he 'goes yard'.
