Will...a record of 8-8 does not surprise me. I have a deep concern for this team's ability to compete. And I hope to still be proven wrong.

Unlike past years, I am uneasy about the starting pitching. Justin Verlander (1-2) isn't the Justin in his prime. Which Anibal Sanchez (2-2) shows up is an ongoing concern. Jordan Zimmermann (3-0) is a bright shinning spot. I have no confidence in Mike Pelfrey (0-3). Shane Greene (1-1) makes me nervous whenever he is on the mound. That is a combined 7-8 record.

Drew VerHagen (1-0) has the lone victory in relief.

The Sweep of the Tigers by the Indians looms big. It is why the Tigers are not up there in the standings with the Royals and the White Sox.

I'm still not sold on Chicago being a "for real" team but the Royals sure are. And the Tigers need to remain competitive as it seems they always tend to struggle down the stretch to the playoffs.

Detroit can't pitch Jordan Zimmermann every game (or even every 4th game). When Shane Greene and Mike Pelfrey pitch, I already consider those games to be losses. Sanchez and Verlander are wild cards. This is going to be a long season if the Tigers can't find a way to provide quality starts out of the rotation.
