Bruce Rondon sent home due to 'effort level' DETROIT -- Tigers manager Brad Ausmus declined to go into detail when he revealed that closer Bruce Rondon had been sent home for the rest of the season. But not everyone in the Tigers' clubhouse kept quiet about the situation Tuesday. "To be a big component of the team, you have to be there, on the team," Tigers catcher Alex Avila said. "I'll say that. So there's nothing really else for me to say." Avila's comments came shortly after the team announced that Rondon had been banished for the remainder of the season due to a lack of effort. It remains unclear why the 24-year-old reliever was dismissed, and Ausmus declined to comment when asked if the reasoning was baseball-related. Rondon is 1-0 with a 5.81 ERA, a 1.613 WHIP and five saves in 35 appearances for the Tigers this year. He declined media requests following the game Monday after throwing a perfect ninth inning in Game 2 of their doubleheader against Chicago. "Well, yeah, you probably hit it on the nail right there," said Avila when asked if the move is a testament to a team sticking to it's core values. "You want to put out your best effort everyday, no matter the situation." Rondon's locker was empty when the clubhouse opened to media members.
