Verlander stunk today, and Rondon smelled worse. hats off to Perkins getting through the heart of the lineup to get the save
no don kelly, coulda seen this coming loss all the way down woodward. pinch-running him for miggy doesn't count.
From Van Stratt, mlive: In the bottom of the third inning, just as Detroit Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday headed to the batter's box, he turned to Torii Hunter with a gut feeling. "Call the bullpen," Holaday said. "Tell them to get ready for the ball." Holaday watched Andrew Albers' first pitch zip by -- an 83 mile-per-hour sinker. Strike one. Then, on the second pitch, just as he had predicted, he hit his first major league career home run. And it landed just a few rows behind the bullpen. "You know what's tripped out?," Torii Hunter said following the Tigers' 7-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. "He said, before he went up there, he told me, 'Tell the bullpen to wake up, because something's coming out there.' "I swear to you. I swear it. He did. And then he hit it and I was like, 'Whoa.'" Rather Babe Ruthish for Holaday, calling his first HR. Good for him.
Tigers open a series in New York tonight against the Mets. It will be Mr. Fister (10-6) against the newly picked-up Matsuzaka (0-0). Would be nice to see the Tigers get out of the funk they seem to have been in. Not playing bad baseball, just not catching any breaks and dealing with alot of banged up players. I think a great pitching performance by Doug, would go a long way for Detroit tonight. Tigers are 5-5 in their last ten games, still up on Cleveland by 5.
Avila caught for three innings and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Toledo. He's going to play about 4 games here to get his timing figured out. He should be good to go in a few days.
with all the BS that's associated with pro sports, it was great to see holaday's child-like joy after hitting the homer. that's what sports should be about.

For the first time in more than two years, Victor Martinez will start a game at catcher. Martinez has not caught in a game since Aug. 4, 2011. Had to keep his bat in there. Hope he keeps his legs.
Nice. An 0-2 count HR for Torii, 1-0. Just like that. Sounds like Jim Joyce working home plate. That guy is LOUD!
my kinda ump. Go Tigs!! 0-2 and rips one, dont see that too often. why would a pitcher go back in the zone on that count, makes no sense. waste a couple and hope he bites
Could have been. I didnt see it either. Its amazing how Kelly in the lineup, causes Cabrera to hit home runs...unbelievable talent.
LOL. brent may be at the top of my sports douches list at this point. i really hate it when i have to watch a game with him. if the irish-michigan game is him, i'm really gonna be unhappy. hi brent :-*
