    Dombrowski: Tigers not sellers...

    By; Jon Heyman,

There's been a lot of speculation about whether Tigers ace David Price and others could be traded by Detroit at the trade deadline. But Dave Dombrowski, Tigers president and general manager, made clear they are not in sell mode in response to a text about their current status.

"We are doing everything we can to try and qualify for the playoffs," Dombrowski texted back.

The spectre of Price could possibly affect how aggressively some teams seeking pitching try to acquire someone else. But selling does not appear to be on Dombrowski's mind -- certainly not yet.

Price would shoot to the top of the list of available pitchers, even as a rental. The Dodgers and any other team looking for pitching would have interest in one of the game's best pitchers. Yoenis Cespedes, a talented outfielder, also would draw interest. Assuming they hold both players, the Tigers can extend the qualifying offer to Price but not to Cespedes.

The perennially contending Tigers have surprisingly slipped to 48-50 but they still only trail in the race for the second wild card by four games, and they'll get star Miguel Cabrera back at some point.

Detroit was hurt by injuries to Victor Martinez and Justin Verlander in the first half, as well.

  5. I dont think this team has the horses. rotation outside of Price is terrible, bullpen is one of the worst in the league, Miggy is out etc etc. the farm team is one of the most barren in the majors, I have no idea what Dombrowski even thinks hes gonna offer someone. Steven Moya is a crappy Castellanos, theres nothing really of value down there. And they need multiple pieces to even have a shot at the WC. Bullpen help (lefty and setup man), need a good #2 or 3 in the rotation - that in istelf is what every team is looking for so your gonna pay a kings ransom. I think this is a bad move if they are buyers. Now youll lose Cespedes, Soria, Price and Davis for nothing. Im the last person that wants to give up on this season but Ive seen enough, dont take this team back 5 years by making one last (pun intended) ditch effort. throw Price to the Cubs and see if you can get one of the young studs, ditto for the Stros or Yanks

  6. heres one they can throw the Cubs way. Price for Carl Edwards Jr(#1 prospect in their system), and either Addison Russell or Rizzo. then off that anchor Castellanos or Kinsler whos gonna be a FA I think next year and put Russell in his spot. Russell is a natural SS but playing 2nd right now. If your stuck w Castellanos put him back in leftfield where he played in the minors, after you trade Cespedes and his glaring defensive weaknesses can be better hidden. or put Miggy back at 3rd and Rizzo at 1st. Rizzo is the power lefty this team needs and hes only like 23 with grade A power

  7. ummm, no

The Tigers had 3 hits yesterday and just 1 hit tonight. They are the new 1-hit wonders.

  18. good for justin *THUMBSUP*

  19. ditto, Lulz. hope DBrow has a plan here, lots of guys getting moved and good prospects/picks being traded. you snooze you lose. the guys we'd move are top notch tho but teams only have so much ammo to work with. I hope we can get things together but trust me this is a very uphill climb. I hope Im wrong but I still say sell and this close to the deadline, its shit or get off the pot
