Alex Avila worked out with his new hockey style mask and said it felt good. He said after a bit of practice he wont even know it's on. Need this guy healthy.
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2015/02/21/jose-iglesias-detroit-tigers/23805185/ This would be huge for the 2015 Detroit Tigers if this guy plays the entire season - including World Series (hopefully).
baseball is so strange to me, Joba is nothing great but all he could get on the open market was 1 per? in a soft cap league Id expect a vet like him to have got much more. At 1 hes a huge bargain if you ask me. middling relievers are getting handed contracts for 3-4 like their candy I have a list of question marks for the Tigers, when I have some more time Ill post them. I think for any Tiger fan it will make for a good debate/convo
Ok, I normally do this every year before the season starts but I find myself with more questions this year before the season starts than I have in quite some time. Ill throw my questions out and see what you guys think and give my thoughts after these are in no particular order as far as my biggest concern etc - Will Miggy be 100% this year and if so how long will it take for him to get to that point? first few weeks? All Star break? -Is Rondon FINALLY healthy? if so, where do you plug him in in the bullie - Gose(who has great speed and a good arm) and Davis are platooning in CF, will it work? -VMart, how healthy is he and how long if at all will it take for him to get to full speed. this guy is the X factor to me - can Nathan get his head out of his ass and pitch like the closer we need him to be? - Iglesias, does he play a full season? will he be as good as he was before the injury? will his range be limited? - will Simon be the starting pitcher that the Reds had in the first half - or the 2nd (where I think he ran out of gas) - the Simon/Green duo obviously cant replace Max and Porcello, but how far is the falloff? - can JD Martinez repeat last years performance? can he fill the void in right left by a guy I wanted back in Hunter - are we gonna see the JV from 2012 or 2014? maybe somewhere in between - can Anibal stay healthy? - does McCann take over for Avila full time? - and lastly what will Cespedes bring, he can change the whole dynamic of this team like I said I have thoughts on all of these but Im interested in your thoughts
let me rephrase Price > Scherzer ? Green Smyly Simon > Porcello? its was meant to be more of a rotation question on a whole than an individual question I guess, but while were at it....
- Will Miggy be 100% this year and if so how long will it take for him to get to that point? first few weeks? All Star break? = I think he will be just fine at the very beginning of the season. I really dont think he will miss a step. -Is Rondon FINALLY healthy? if so, where do you plug him in in the bullie = Late, like 7th inning material. - Gose(who has great speed and a good arm) and Davis are platooning in CF, will it work? = I think they are very sound defensively. My concern is can they hit and add somrthing to the offense. Gose will be key in the lineup, but he must get on base and have a real goos OBP. -VMart, how healthy is he and how long if at all will it take for him to get to full speed. this guy is the X factor to me = Good question. I think he will be healthy, but im concerend at how long he can stay that way. Good thing he will do the bulk of the DH'ing. - can Nathan get his head out of his ass and pitch like the closer we need him to be? = I doubt it. To much roller coaster in him. Remember the roller coaster? - Iglesias, does he play a full season? will he be as good as he was before the injury? will his range be limited? = Big time question. Tigers brass are wondering the same thing. He stay's healthy and the defense up the middle is going to be better than it has been in a long time. - will Simon be the starting pitcher that the Reds had in the first half - or the 2nd (where I think he ran out of gas) = Well, he better be the 1st half version or it's bully for him. In Cinncy, he had hardly any run support... that should be better in Detroit. - the Simon/Green duo obviously cant replace Max and Porcello, but how far is the falloff? = it's friggin' huge. - can JD Martinez repeat last years performance? can he fill the void in right left by a guy I wanted back in Hunter = He will... that's my guess. I think he is going to get even better. (no jinx). - are we gonna see the JV from 2012 or 2014? maybe somewhere in between = Somewhere inbetween would be enough, but i sure hope it's even a better season for him. He really needs to be the 'comeback player of the year', for the Tigers to compete. - can Anibal stay healthy? = Track record doesnt bode well, but i can only hope he can. He is the dark horse of that rotation. He must stay healthy. No room for anything else. - does McCann take over for Avila full time? = No, i dont think so. Platoon yes, at times i think. - and lastly what will Cespedes bring, he can change the whole dynamic of this team = I think he will be a surprise. He better just keep his head on straight and get in a habitual approach to playing the game. He's too much of a free-lancer out there. He needs to focus and i think the likes of Cabrera and VMart will help him along. ____________________________________________________________________________ Just answered off the top of my head and on the fly. You know me... i'm the faithful optimist every season and just hope for the best. I really get fired up every start to a new season. This year is going to be a battle in the Central and will not be dull at all. I think it's going to be very nerve shattering the whole way through.
I liked this kid when they drafted him, I hope he can make a comeback. he had some real nice stuff and a strong arm
