With Max Scherzer all but out the door, the Tigers will need Verlander to adjust his pitching and get wins like he used to.

I sure miss that old place. Live there, I could not do... visit, oh ya.

  7. very interesting MM. My questions are ones that are sometimes very difficult for a pitcher to understand. If the gas is gone forever those offspeed pitches are a critical adjustment he'll need to make. Obviously without the threat of 98/99 those pitches become less effective but his curveball is a 12-6 bender and top notch. I think he can do it but as Ive said for some time now hes a very confident/stubborn person and has only pitched one way his whole life. He can do it but how long will the learning curve be? at 25+ per he'll get plenty of opportunities. Ausmus is dead on with the cutter and 2 seamer although Ive always thought those were more effective for a power pitcher, especially the cutter.......the what? ;)

It seems to me, JV used to get by on pure arm strength with an occasional change of pace, via the cutter, curve or change. Over time and all those innings a great pitcher will use his head as well as his God given talent to change things up when needed. I only hope JV is one to make that adjustment quickly.

I think we have sorta seen the changing of the norm with him over the last 2 seasons. There were times when he was really struggling and hitters were on his fastball. Last season he seemed to settle into more of a pitching mind set and was getting back into a groove because of his ability to change philosophy. His fastball, even a few ticks slower, was still the go to, because the breaking stuff seemed to be falling in place.

But anyway, Im no pitcher, just an observer. I do think he will make the needed adjustments and do well again this year. Gonna need the good JV.

i dont think verdy is done just yet. too young to be done.

signing max is key but at what price? $200 mil? $250 ? yikes. max is great but with arm injuries so common, that's a lot of coin!

  12. i expect to be mocked by cutter for this, but ima do my part today by buying a pizza from mike.

If Max's price comes down, perhaps the Tigers will be actively looking to re-sign him.
