Will I keep seeing conflicting stories on Miggys recovery time. I just want to know if he'll be ready for opening day and if hes gonna be 100%. we dont need any lingering crap over 162+ games. Im already looking forward to next season how bout them Royals. I had a couple teams interested in signing me out of HS and they were one of them. I always kind of pull for them. the Central is no longer a 'weak division', we have atleast 2 legitimate contenders and maybe a WS champ soon. Cleveland isnt too shabby either, and they have prob my favorite MLB coach in Francona. Id say theres no more floating through 25 games or so anymore like I couldve said a few years ago for the Tigers
I think he will be good to go come opening day. Everything Ive read indicates he may just be behind 100% by Spring Training. I think it's hard to gauge or put a time on how fast or slow a person recovers, hence the wishy washy reports. Im only guessing myself, based on info ive read, that if he takes good care of himself, which i hope is the case, his type of surgery shouldnt set him back too long. I think for know, all one can do is have an educated estimation on the time frame. Royals are surprising a lot of people. Im pulling for them to win it all. 29 years is a long time to wait. Ya, the Central is turning into a great division. Funny how the ebbs and flow work out. The East is declining and the power shift out West is switching while in the meantime the Central gets much improved. I think Chicago is headed in the right direction too as well are the Twins. Both teams just 1 or 2 pieces away from serious contention, imo. In regards to Francona, its amazing what a good mindset can do for an orginization. He's turned them right around and how, I dont know. He must be good. I didnt know you got serious looks in HS. Thats great. I know and grew up with a few that played when I did and a couple actually made the bigs. In my HS days, I got a lot of dirty looks. Usually from pissed off coaches and managers.
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24775290/players-become-free-agents-as-offseason-begins I would like to see Max Scherzer, Victor Martinez, and Torii Hunter back with the Tigers next season. I believe though that Max will be elsewhere in 2015 - unfortunately.
I was wondering how you would feel about this deal. I have mixed feelings. I was kinda hoping they would blow the whole buly up and start over. Or, do Soria and Nathan have bounce-back career seasons. Seems like a high risk/gamble again situation. Frankly, Im tired of the hope it's better this time attitude. Much rather have a no-doubter brought in, but he may not exist. ...and a blank check! V-Mart is going to want multi years tho. What do you think about that, guy's? Is even he worth a muli-year contract?
I really would hate to see Victor playing with another AL Central team. And since he Tigers are built to now, I think the Tigers offer Martinez enough of what he wants to stay.
not sure exactly what resigning a reliever who posted a nearly 5 ERA (even higher than the dismal bullpen's average) is the start of. do u have reason to think that he's gonna suddenly pitch better?
look at his career numbers. He was also injured shortly after arriving and may have had lingering affects. he was not 100% and I think those numbers were a direct reflection of it. a career 2.58 ERA over seven seasons proves it, he'll be fine next year. He can also close if needed which is HUGE to this team. Besides for that price I think hes a bargain
Don Kelly, affectionately known as 'Donnie Baseball' around these parts, has refused is assignment to the minors and is leaving the Tigers. He is now a FA. I wish him well and hope he doesnt become an Indian or a Yankee. Evan Reed followed him out the door also.
Detroit Tigers' Victor Martinez wins Silver Slugger as American League's top-hitting designated hitter mlive.com DETROIT -- Victor Martinez won his first Silver Slugger Award in 2004 in his first full season with the Cleveland Indians. It took him a decade to finally win his second. Martinez was the lone Tigers player to be recognized with a Silver Slugger Award on Thursday after being honored as the American League's best designated hitter. The awards are voted on by major league managers and coaches. Named one of three finalists for the AL Most Valuable Player earlier this week, Martinez beat out AL home-run king Nelson Cruz and Boston's David Ortiz to win the award, which recognizes the best offensive producers at each position. Martinez won his only other Silver Slugger Award nearly 10 years ago as a catcher with the Indians, sharing the award with former Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez. The accolades are beginning to pile up this offseason for Martinez, who was named Tiger of the Year earlier this week, which recognizes the team's most valuable player. He was also one of three candidates for the AL Outstanding Player Award, as voted on by his peers, but finished behind Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout. At age 35, Martinez led the American League with a .409 on-base percentage and 28 intentional walks. His .335 batting average and .565 slugging percentage both ranked second in the league, and his .974 OPS led the majors. Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera came up short of winning his third straight Silver Slugger after falling to Chicago White Sox rookie Jose Abreu at first base. The Tigers have had at least one Silver Slugger winner in each of the past five seasons. This year's winners include: American League First base: Jose Abreu, White Sox Second base: Jose Altuve, Astros Third base: Adrian Beltre, Rangers Shortstop: Alexei Ramirez, White Sox Outfield: Mike Trout, Angels Outfield: Jose Bautista, Blue Jays Outfield: Michael Brantley, Indians Catcher: Yan Gomes, Indians Designated hitter: Victor Martinez, Tigers National League First base: Adrian Gonzalez, Dodgers Second base: Neil Walker, Pirates Third base: Anthony Rendon, Nationals Shortstop: Ian Desmond, Nationals Outfield: Andrew McCutchen, Pirates Outfield: Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins Outfield: Justin Upton, Braves Catcher: Buster Posey, Giants Pitcher: Madison Bumgarner, Giants
I read an article in the Oakland Press, that states the Tigers are showing a real interest in Melky Cabrera. He's a center fielder and a switch hitter, that would really balance out the lineup as far as being able to run another lefty out there. He would be a nice pick-up in my opinion, but wont come cheap. What do you think?

this is HUGE if it happens. he provides just as much off paper. the guys love him and to be honest I wouldve been shocked if DBrow or Illitch let him walk. If he resigns that provides protection for Miggy(who from what Ive read looks up to VMart) and keeps JD in left and allows Dombrowski to focus on the bullpen. Im starting to think Span may get a serious look at this point. The market for almost any player is very thin but in center its exceptionally thin. He gives you speed and Torii was a good bud of his from his playing days in Minny. Im still gunning big time for Nescheck and more importantly Miller. A power lefty out of the pen is a very nice option and DBRow drafted Miller, he loves the power arms and how irionic would it be to get the guy back that was the centerpiece of the Miggy trade. remember we got Carlos Guillen for Ramon Santiago - and then got Ramon back while Guillen was still here. Dombrowski is very smart and shrewd
