Price tag for Detroit Tigers to keep rotation intact would be more than $100 million for 2015 season http://www.mlive.com/tigers/index.ssf/2014/10/price_tag_to_keep_detroit_tige.html That's a lot. mlive breaks it down. I just wonder what direction the Tigers are going to want to go. Do they tear it down and start over or do they pay through the nose and keep the window open?

Should be very interesting. If the Tigers dont resign VMart then I put Miggy in at DH and look for a 1b. Slim pickings here. Lefty relief help is imperative. I aslo make a push for Haren, Gallardo and Shields. Cheap, young and good and a guy Ive wanted here for years in SHields. Russell Martin is also a guy a make a big push for. Hes solid at the plate with decent power but his real strength is on defense. DOnt quote me on this but I think only 30% of base stealers accomplished their mission. Hes great in the clubhouse too. Hanley for the right price is another I guy I aim for, he brings everything and would be a monstrous upgrade defensively in the infield. I slot him in at SS(his original position) and later days Romine. K Rod gets a long look too, nothing over 8 though for him
Not the greatest list of free agents. Very few players I would like to see the Tigers take a chance on. Quite poor actually. In most cases with the Tigers I think backing up positions with the farm hands is the way to go, especially at the catchers position. Span in center is intriguing to me. I think the bullpen is the #1 issue and man what a mess it is. Sometimes things become so screwed up, I dont even know where to start to fix it. My first reaction is to blow the whole thing up and start over with the exception of 1 or 2 arms. Lobster is a keeper, but most of the arms paraded out there couldnt do anything. I would like to see Scherzer given 1 more year, IF he would take it. He has indicated he would like to stay in Detroit, but he's going to demand multi-years and tons of cashola... hell, at this rate if they could possibly afford it, do it, imo. One thing I dont want in Detroit is a throw in the white towel, rebuild, or something like that. I think they are a very good ball club and just fall short in a couple of places. I sure like the starting pitching and would like to see them stick together as much as possible. V-Mart coming back is huge too. Shore up the pitching, outfield and a bat or two and things look real good. Easier said than done, tho.
In the first two games of the 2014 ALDS (DET vs BAL), the bull pen is most responsible for those losses. The bull pen was a problem for most of the season. Even in wins, they made fans very nervous. The Tigers bull pen hasn't thrown in the towel, they've been fitted for a shroud. On the bright side, the Tigers can make changes to the bull pen without fear of "messing it up."
I give him another shot for 10 per but only because of that. He has an extrememly short leash and if DBrow does like I know he will in the offseason the bullpen will be addressed. He needs atleast one lefty( Miller or Beimel) and I go Neshek with the righty. I think all can be had for about 8 or so. And it gives you so much flexibility. Miller (a lefty)was always a starter and can go long if needed, hes still young and doesnt complain about where you slot him(this is rare for a guy of his calibre coming into the bigs). he has plus speed and hes really got command of his offspeed stuff. Beimel gives you a veteran lefty who was beloved by Dodger teammates, hes like 38 but he can be had on the cheap. he doesnt get rattled and has very nice offspeed stuff. Neshek is a righty but hes incredibly deceptive in his delivery, in all my years of watching baseball Ive never seen a stranger windup. how he gets any action after his release is beyond me. bottom line is hes money If theres any doubt as to the importance of the bullpen, ask the Royals where they would be without it
a little caveat. I remember when Miller was traded to the Marlins and he was so upset with it he kept his Tigs practice uni on in his first practice with them. Kind of funny. If Im DBrow thats priority one with the bullie
Just read your post's while watching the ALCS. The Royals pen is trotting guy's out there hitting 99mph. They have been lights out. If the Royals are up after 6, they have had ridiculous numbers. Saw the report on Nathan earlier. Dont like the idea of naming the starting closer now. In my opinion there should be some competition for the gig. At least make Nathan think about things a bit. Calling him the closer for 2015 already is a little premature. Maybe DD is just trying to stay up-beat... he's taking a lot of heat for the bullpen mess. I say, it comes with the territory.
Im a big fan of Hunters, and so is DBow more importantly. he called him the best locker room guy hes been around. I think bringing him back is a no brainer if he wants to continue playing. Like he said the numbers are still there, his defense isnt what it used to be but hes still more than serviceable and hes as classy as it gets. To be honest I think it would be a big mistake to let him walk and I think DBrow knows it Also the more I hear/think about all the FA's we have I think Hunter returns along with VMart. I keep forgetting we have another guy I really like in Iglesias coming back. If VMart signs elsewhere I make a huge push for Hanley. Put him at 3rd or SS, Castellanos back in LF where he was in the minors and MIggy DH. Now you have some legitimate runners and weve seen how much that can screw up an opposing teams gameplan with KC. They got the most speed on one team in recent memory, its damn near top to bottom
everyone was so down on our farm system and I never really understood why. Moya and Ziomel are legit. Moya just needs to be more patient. Ziomek has excellent stuff. hits 97 on the gun and has a lot of movement on his fastball with some impressive breaking pitches. if his arm holds up hes the real deal, he comes from Vandy and they are almost like Rice where its a steady stream of solid major league pitchers coming from there
+http://m.tigers.mlb.com/news/articl...a-healthy-jose-iglesias-to-start-at-shortstop Hopefully, Iglesias is able to play a full 2015 season - including the World Series!
He makes me nervous. I sure hope he can put it together and stay healthy. The Tigers will have to do something to stay prepared for the worst tho. Dont like having holes in the lineup or the defense. Gotta have all area's covered.
Victor Martinez, finished 4th for 'Sporting News Player of the Year'. Clayton Kershaw won, edging out Mike Trout. Alex Avila, Miguel Cabrera and Ian Kinsler, are 'Gold Glove Award' finalist.
If Suarez ends up being our starting SS Im gonna stab myself in the face and jump in front of a train
Iglesias if hes even comes close to what he was before the injury(which I fully expect him to be just as good) then Ill be happy as a clam. This guy from the little Ive seen so far is the best defensive SS in the bigs and he can swing a little too. his range and arm strength are impeccable. This guy is the real deal to me and I forgot about him - shame on me. Hanley stays on my radar still. He can play 3B and SS and has recovered nicely from his injuries. Im very intrigued by him and Andrew Miller
Apparently the bone spurs were expected. The stress fracture they found was a complete surprise. Makes me wonder what the healthy Cabrera with 2 good legs will do next season. He say's Hi.
