Baseball America released its list of "bests" as chosen by major-league managers and Detroit's Jim Leyland was named the American League's top manager by his peers. Good for him. He certainly has done a fine job.
The Tigers have posted a stingy 1.16 ERA during their 10-game winning streak. Jose Valverde was givin his unconditional release today. Bye,bye, Papa Grande. Fister (10-5) vs Salazar (1-0), tonight, as Tigers go for 11th in a row.

Jeremy Bonderman worked three scoreless innings in relief and picked up his first win for the Detroit Tigers since Sept. 8, 2010. The victory was also the first decision of any kind for Bonderman as a relief pitcher. Prince Fielder doubled home two runs in the top of the 14th inning as the Tigers pulled out a 6-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians to run their winning streak to 11 games. Tigers are now 67-45, 6 games up on Cleveland.
Rondon is not ready for the majors, sucked again last night. Now that Dotel is coming back give him more time in the minors to get his command, and do it before he turns into Franklyn German - a guy with great stuff who became a head case becuase he wasnt ready. Prince mustve heard me bitching, way to go man. If you start playing like everyone knows you can were gonna be that much tougher to beat. so much thunder in this lineup but weve yet to have everyone going at once.....if it happens LOOK OUT
Tigers continue the ten game trip into the Bronx tonight. Porcello (8-6) against Nova (5-4). Looking for lucky 13.
i heard he hit 88 more than once, and i'll say this - his fastball had better movement on it than many real pitchers'. if u think about it, he came in in a perfect situation. he couldn't cost his team the game, and the tigers were sitting there with their pants unbuttoned after gorging on indians pitching all night long. they were fat, dumb and happy, and the killer instinct was well sedated at that point.
Tigers catcher Alex Avila was cleared to rejoin the team for Friday's series opener against the Yankees after being examined for a possible concussion. He took a foul ball off the mask lastnight and wasnt feeling well.
