  1. that play highlighted a huge problem with the replay system in MLB. girardi came out and chatted up the up, obvious to even ray charles that he was stalling so he could get word from staff about whether to challenge the play or not. this happens several times a game. it needs to be fixed. it's not like baseball games are fast to begin with - they really don't need any extra incentive to slow the game down.

in football, u can't challenge after the next snap has taken place. the difference is, if u stall too long deciding whether to throw the flag or not, u get a penalty. baseball has no such mechanism. they need to figure this one out. i'm a big fan of replay, but this setup is badly flawed.

I totally agree and its going on more and more, just about every night, if not every night. I'm not sure off the top of my skull what the answer is, but it needs addressed asap. Your right too, baseball can be a slow game at times and this is not a good thing. Maybe a certain amount of seconds to make up your mind whether or not your going to challenge would work... no more of this conversation/delay stuff till they get a hand signal. If the manager calls time he should be able to make up his mind right away. They are definitely milking the system and taking too much advantage.

  3. well, the problem is, there already supposedly is a 30 second limit - but it's pretty clear that managers are getting away with murder. in football, a 5 yard penalty for delay makes perfect sense to me. there aren't really any equivalent game-based things in baseball u could do that wouldn't be far worse than that - so i'm thinking fines for the team if they stall too long. make the fine a BIG one.

Money usually gets peoples attention real fast. Thats not a bad idea at all. I just had a light bulb moment meself. Maybe take away their use of a challenge during the following game. Of course if the umps could stop being manipulated and stick to the written rule this wouldnt be such a problem. 30 seconds is very fair and even seems a bit long honestly.

Until they straighten this out, I'm just going to blame the umps and Bob. :)
