This Datsyuk drama is interesting to say the least. Did a doc miss something? I guess we'll learn more later today.
Does Zetterberg have a target date?

As for Zetterberg, his surgery was on the 21st of February and its expected to take 8 weeks to heal. At the end of the 8 weeks he will be re-evaluated. I guess its possible he could return in mid-April for the first round of the playoffs. For right now, everything Ive read is still kind of vague.

Kinda blows not getting these wounded Wings back, like Cleary and Weiss, Kindl, and the likes...could sure use them in Z's and Dats absence.

Thats about all I got for now...

  3. i was under the impression cleary has been a healthy scratch, not injured.

One of the worst 3rd periods I think I may have seen by the Wings in many, many years. Total break-down. To have it happen in such a huge game, after showing spurts of decent hockey in the 2nd period is not exceptable. Cant be because they were tired, they had plenty of rest leading up to the game, but they better re-learn how to play defensively and clear their own zone...and pronto!

Its a smart move, imo. I hope he's good on the back-checking aspect of the game, and with all the injuries the Wings really had no choice, and can sure use the help.

It just keeps getting worse, when will it end?

PHT;The Detroit Red Wings have suffered from serious injury issues this season, and it doesn?t look like things will get any better soon, as GM Ken Holland announced that the team will ?shut down? Pavel Datsyuk for three weeks. The good news is that surgery on that bad knee isn?t on tap ? yet.

?Right now, there?s no surgery for Pavel,? Holland said. ?We?re gonna shut him down and see where we?re at in three weeks.?

Now, keep in mind, three weeks is when they?re revisit the situation. In a best-case scenario, the Red Wings would get Datsyuk back sometime around March 25 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He?s already missed two games and would miss 10 more in the most ideal series of events. Knowing Detroit?s luck in 2013-14, this could end up being a lengthier ordeal.

To make matters worse, the team also announced that Darren Helm was pulled from Tuesday?s game because of ?headaches? and will miss at least a few days.

When you stack Datsyuk and Helm?s latest setbacks alongside bad luck for Henrik Zetterberg and Stephen Weiss ? among others ? it?s easy to see why the ?wounded wings? headline has been featured so often at PHT. It also makes it that much easier to understand why they gave up some valuable assets to get David Legwand on deadline day.

I read they brought Pulkinnen up. Are they just getting him a few extra bucks or will they play him soon? Curious to see him play has some wheels and a belligerent shot. Projections vary widely on how he'll translate up a level.

  13. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Good question, Bob. I got nothing. I cant find anything on him but his stats, witch are impressive, but like you said, hard to project. Im only hoping because he was called up, he might get a few shifts.

Tonight is all about some guy named lindstrom or lidstrom or something like that, I think I may have heard of him...once. :)

BTW Wings fans, The tribute starts at 6:30 and the puck drop has been bumped up to 8pm.

  14. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    Lundstrom...yeah, sounds familiar.

  15. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

I kind of kept up with Pulkinnen (as much as one can from the states in Jokerit) because he played with Teravainen.
Saw him play a few times. High upside, high downside. I wonder what the plan is.

  16. hockeybob Hall-of-Fame Blackhawks

    errr low downside?

  17. I will say it was a smart move. I wasnt aware of what Im sure Holland knew before the general public knew(dats is hurt and Weiss news is bad), and in this regard it was a good move. As a casual fan (not knowing the health of our two top centers at the time of the trade) I thought it was a lateral move at best. This guy is not a #1 center, dont kid yourself into thinking hes one, just like Kronwall isnt a #1 either. but Legwand even at 33 is fast and and excellent Pk man/faceoff center. hes the biggest center in recent memory. size up the middle is guud. Im still gonna temper my enthusiasm. Holland gave little so we have nothing to lose

  18. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

Ya, I saw Holland interviewed while the process of the trades were ongoing. He was waiting for a doctors report on Datsyuk. Once he got the bad news about Pavel, I think they had to shift gears real quick and go for Legwand. I think Holland would have liked a top 4 defensemen, just like what was being reported, but they just fall too short up front and went the best way they could at the time. Injuries to key, core, players have ruined a lot of what Holland wanted to do, I think.
