What a great win for the Wings. Feels pretty good right now! Loved the hustle for the loose pucks and the overall intensity. *THUMBSUP*
Its like these are the bizarro playoffs . As a Red Wings fan I remember the frustration of being the better talented team and it not showing in the playoffs . Now its the Wings playing over their heads . Rising up to play harder and more physical . Negating the talent and depth of the Hawks . I hope it continues .
I've been thinking this exact same thing the entire playoffs. Don't forget the god-tier goaltending. I still have nightmares about J.S. Giguere in 2003.
I'm already hearing complaints about Shaw's disallowed goal. I don't remember Hawks fans being this bad when it comes to making excuses and complaining about calls. Apparently the Wings have been "extremely lucky", have "gotten all the calls", and "still have no chance of winning this series." The hit on Franzen that could have easily been called boarding was "clearly the right call" while the refs "robbed the Hawks of they tying goal" on a terrible call. So far the Hawks have only lost because "they didn't show up", "the refs screwed them", or "the other team got extremely lucky." It's ridiculous. I've never seen a fanbase be this petty after a loss. (No disrespect, Bob)
are u mocking SCPB&J? one of my favorite album cover notes, from Martin Mull's Normal: This album contains no cheap shots at the Carpeters or Carl E. Simon.
If he was mocking SCPB then MiamiTom must be the other one. If I remember correctly they're both ornery Bruins fans.
lets get this right, they're both ornery and terrible and they just happen to be Bruins fans. Congrats on the win Wings guys. Patrick Eaves!!
None taken, but I would ask you to recall the reactions from the last postseason losses to the Sharks.
Good win for the wings btw. Should be more fun the next couple games. The disallowed goal is relatively new to most Chicago fans. We (hawks fans) haven't seen anybody set up in front (with relative success) of the net since the 80s so you'll have to cut them some slack on that one, you'll see the same reactions on goalie interfernce calls against Chicago skaters too. Chicago is really bad (by tradition) at getting and staying near the paint or between the circles. If you really want to see Chicago fans get bent out of shape, wait until Detroit really outhits them. Chicago fans really, really hate that the Hawks can be swatted around. It's like catnip for stupid, similar to questionable calls in a game that the wings lose by one goal.
Honestly Bob I'm never surprised or angry or insulted when FANS are bothered by a disallowed goal. I think it's a natural reaction for fans and especially die hard fans to be bothered by something like that. But what I am honestly totally blown away by is Q's comments. This is a good veteran coach who said something that was in my opinion very stupid. When they asked him why he disagreed with the call, he said "he didn't touch the goalie". Since when does a player have to touch a goalie for a goal to be disallowed? As long as the referees believe the offensive player prevented the goalie from reasonably being able to stop the puck the referee can waive off the goal. There is a crease there for a reason and when an offensive player has both feet in the crease and the goalie is deep in his net on the goal line the goalie doesn't stand much of a chance. I've seen many goals like that one allowed and disallowed, but for Q to imply a player has to touch a goalie for a goal to be disallowed honestly blows my mind because that's not the rule at all. Holmstrom got called for interference and Wings goals were disallowed over the years too many times to count and in most of those plays he didn't touch the goalie or have both skates in the crease. Heck there were times he had NO SKATES in the crease but the goal was still disallowed. I don't think the refs are the reason the Hawks are down 2-1 in this series. I'm also of the opinion that anybody who expected the non call on the Franzen hit that led to an immediate goal AND the 2nd goal to be allowed as well is asking for a lot. One call went their way and one didn't. I can't understand Q's response to that play and the refs call.
ya, it was surprising that Q was up there bitching about that. Gets everyone from time to time i guess.
Yeah, I should have been more clear about that. No disrespect to the Bruins fan base, Matty. They're just idiots
That's what I've been saying. One call went their way; one didn't. They washed each other out and the Wings won by two. This isn't unlike Quenneville, though. The "worst call in the history of the game" happened in game 4 of the WCF's in 2009 -- it played a huge part in their 6-1 loss. Fair enough. Wings fans made so many excuses after each loss both years. It happened when the Wings lost to the Penguins in 2009, too. I guess we weren't used to our team being outplayed or losing to a better team at that point.
appreciate that Mo. there are so many great Boston fans, they're just usually trumped by the loud obnoxious dolts.
That's true. My issue has more to do with the shock exhibited by so many on the call after seeing so many similar scenarios. I'm not positive on this one, but he normally only comments specifically on the explanation given to him. I would be willing to bet an official told him the reason for the call was contact. He normally doesn't get into specifics like that unless he's repeating something. Q's on my poop list, and he's going to sink further if he was just whining like it sounded. Chicago has been in plenty of questionable goal calls the last 3 years, I think he's very familiar with the rule. He probably took exception to the explanation more than anything in my opinion. If it was anybody besides the Mule, I would completely agree. I also think with all that time, few players like Mule are there to get hit. Hawks scored 1 damn goal. They scored 0 goals on the pp. They hit iron alot and fell asleep for a couple shifts. Excuses from Hawks fans shouldn't be taken seriously. Both teams played pretty well and there was plenty of time on the ice when both teams could have an effect on the outcome of the game regardless of what the zebras did.
