i just grabbed Gustavsson in one of the fantasy leagues. Howards grasp on the starting job must be tenuous at this point right?
I dont think his classification as the 'starter' is in any jeopardy, but he is losing some playing time lately. Gus has been fantastic and should be a solid pick-up for you. Its hard to gauge whats going on with Howard...is it the play in front of him?, or is it something on his part? Maybe a combination of both. I think he will be back to form soon, he's just to good not to be, if he's healthy.

The former. The Wings look so much less competent in their own zone when Howard's in net for whatever reason. It's really annoying to see Wings fans bash Howard unfairly just because of the results rather than his actual play. He hasn't been anywhere near as bad as some irrational Wings fans have made him out to be. He is the Matthew Stafford of the Red Wings.

Gustavsson is 8-0-1, with a 2.04 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. He gets his second start in a row, tonight at the JLA against Florida.
Case in point: the Wings play better in front of Gustavsson than they do Howard. They allowed 14 shots against the Oilers about a month ago when Mrazek was in net. It's night and day.

no. i don't think he sucks as much as i once did, but it's nothing close to winning me over. this guy has holes in his game big enough to sail a freighter through.
Your right...I think...hard to put a handle on it, they need to play like that in front of Howard and be more consistent. They were giving up a boat load of shots for a while and then seem to figure things out, but it seems as though Howard doesnt get nearly the support as others do, especially when the numbers (sog) indicate so. I would hate to think the Wings are taking it easy just because Jimmy is in goal...not cool. Maybe its just some weird luck or quirk of the game, but it sure seems like Howard is getting peppered.
Interesting stat from mlive... Thats not too shaby, Nice to see some production from these guys, and the experience has got to be paying off. Oh Yeah...I like speed too.
