Brendan Smith makes some gigantic mistakes regularly. It seems like everytime I'm watching the wings I see somebody making a play to clean up his mess or I see Smith making another terrible decision. Can't unscrew that mess in less than two years, time to consider him a project. Ericsson is a much different player than he was 3 years ago, so is Kindl, in my opinion. So there is hope. Is Detroit pandering to Tatar or what? Is keeping him in the press box useful for the franchise or is this just a way to get him a few extra pesos to keep him with the organization. Not sure he has too much to gain in GR, but he has more to gain being on the ice instead of off of it. 1 game and 9 minutes in the last 2 weeks for a 22 year old? Average age of the top 6 scorers is 39 and a half years old right now. It's a long year, have to start getting more of the young players more ice time NOW so they have time to adjust. Detroit-SJ will be very interesting. Can the Wings keep the puck enough to prevent the Sharks from blowing up the defensive pairs?
Defenseman always take longer to develop. You remember Charas first few years, he was horrible. Smith hopefully learns from his mistakes. I still like him and think hell be a top 4 in time. I'm still not a Kind fan, plays too soft for his size, does t clear the crease and shouldn't see any PP time with that weak slapper
I agree that dmen take a long time. I am concerned that lobotomy Smith may require may keep him from being a reliable top 4 type for more than 2 or 3 years. He can hit and he can shoot, but the mental mistakes seem to be more present than most. It's the repetition of similar mistakes that troubles me.
On Kindl, I don't think he's anything special, I just think he's a very good number 5 that is a solid fill-in for 2nd pair minutes. In relation to his cap hit, I think he's very solid. I think he'll outplay most dman at that price. Helps offset Quincey. I really though Quincey would take the next step for the WIngs. I certainly didn't think we saw his best in Colorado, looks like I may be wrong there. He seems like he's better suited for a team that plays a straight north-south game instead of puck possession, he has skill and skates well, so there has to be a way to make him work pretty well somewhere. I wonder if Kenny will move him or just let him ride out the year. He's not part of the long term plan, is he?
I agree with that assesment on Smith Bob, like I said he needs to learn from his mistakes if he doesnt we'll have the next Jesse Wallin on our hands ....dont even bring up Quincey, I effin hate that guy. he sucks worse than Prince does - and is almost as overpaid as him too. At the end of the season Kenny should send him a bill for allowing him to have free food and travel for the season
Prince today around 3 ET.....and yesterday....and the day before.....and the day before that.......and that day before that....
The Red Wings take on the Sharks (7-0-1) tonight at 7:30, at the JLA. This is going to be a tough test for the Wings defense. The Sharks have scored 39 goals already and are pretty stingy defensively. Going to be a fun game to watch, I hope.
It would be real nice to see Kronwall get back that quickly, considering the mess we saw on the ice. I'll miss Tootoo if he goes, the guys got spunk.
That burger does look real good. I might get a few meals out of it though. Think i'll make me one just like it.
Well, I think he's a solid 5. I also see him as still improving, especially during late last season, when he was getting more ice time...I didnt mind him so much then, I thought he was getting better at moving the puck. As long as I see effort and improvement from him im cool with him.
I guess the Sharks are real good at getting pucks on net, averaging over 40 a game, and the Wings are giving them up at a high rate...not a good combination. Looks like one of the main keys for Detroit tonight, will be puck control and the defense clearing quickly, and properly. Wings control the puck, Sharks arnt shooting...Simple.
I enjoyed the game, just wish there was a different outcome, but I was impressed with the play of the Red Wings. Bertuzzi made a wicked move in the shootout and just missed, hitting Niemi's skate as he was spralled on the ice. The young defense played really well and Howard really made some great saves, especially in the second period. Good game, hard earned point for the Wings. Kronwall back on Wednesday. Good news.
