bad hit by abby, i thought he had outgrown that crap. he deserves a suspension, no doubt about it.

bad game all around. at least bert gets back into the lineup now.

 

I rarely say anything about the physical play, its a part of the game I love and most penalties if it was me reffing I would turn the other way but that hit last night was just stupid. Abby should know better than that - apparently he doesnt. put Sammy and Bert in there and see what happens. after last nights debacle the Wings better get things fixed in a hurry, they go down 3-1 goin back the Pond - they are as good as cooked duck

 

I disagree with what you guys are saying about the hit . Lydman turned away from where Abby was coming from. He wasnt standing u when he got hit .
It wasnt charging , it was a good hockey play . I am not a big fan of him but I dont think he should be suspended either.
But it was just handed down, 2 game suspension .
This isnt someone wearing homer glasses either . I have no problem with him being out of the lineup. Hopefully Babcock wont replace him with Tootoo , or we will have more dumb penalties called.

 

Allright. I'm now officially a MUD guy !! As for Abby, he deserved the 5 minute major. Did he deserve a 2 game suspension in the playoffs when a guy like Ference gets 1 game ? No. Ference intentionally tried to hurt Grabovski where Abby tried to take a guy out who had the puck and his head down. I think 1 game would have been fair... but let's face it we aren't going to lose this series because Abdelkader is out 2 games. The Wings desperately need the big boys and the top 2 lines to do some serious damage the rest of the series. I'm talking to you Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen and Filppula. The last guy I mentioned wants a 5 year deal for 5.5 per season or more. Want that kind of money from somebody? Ya might wanna come up big right now when it counts. Yeah he made a great pass in O.T in game 2 to win the game but everybody forgets Clearly's little kick pass to him from the boards started that play or it never happens. Three assists with no goals in his last 8 playoff games going back to last season doesn't excite me and surely isn't going to net him that big contract he's looking for.

 

What is good about launching up at the head area in any of the last 3 years? It's just asking for a fine or suspension, not to mention a 5 min major.

If that wasn't a charge, what is?

 

even i, the Saint of Dirty Hits Forgiveness (aka Pope Frank), say that was suspension worthy... but only 1 game, not 2... c'mon, it's the playoffs! if Ference's attempted decapitation of Grabovski warrants a 1 game suspension, then the Abby pirouette (not quite the Torres Triple Axel) should be around the same. just say 12 "Hail Raffi's" and be done with it.

 

if you want to argue that he didn't skate, but glided the last several feet, that's one thing. but, while it's tough to tell in a lot of cases, it seemed pretty clear to me that he jumped prior to contact. imo, there is no defense for this. you simply cannot do it.

and while i agree about the relative lengths of suspensions, i hate to fall into the "OJ got away with murder, everyone else should too" trap. abby's suspension isn't too long - ference's is too short.

and i laughed at "Hail Raffi", but under no circumstances will i actually say it

fun times in those game glogs Halo, Pen fans love me. that was a nice comeback, to be honest I didnt know u were a Pens fan. crazy bunch of fans you got. some of you guys are alright but theres about a half dozen I cant stand, very passionate group though nonetheless. this year really sucks fot the first time in forever the Wings arent very good and the two teams I cant stand the Hawks n Pens are at the top. gonna be hard to beat either one, very solid

Pens fans on CBS hurt my brain. No, not all of them. But many drive me nuts... like kookoo nuts.

 

All I know is the Wings better win tonight. I didn't go into the playoffs expecting a whole lot, but losing to the Ducks would bother me. Going in I was prepared to lose a series to the Hawks or Canucks, but I hate the Ducks. Can't let it happen.

The Wings have now gone five periods without a goal. I don't expect much in the 3rd. Hiller could play blindfolded and the Wings would still shoot right at his chest. I can't remember him making a quality save in this game; no stretching out the pad, flashing the glove, last second poke check. They always seem to just shoot right at him so he doesn't have to move.

One of two things will happen in the 3rd period:

1. The Wings will get a garbage goal from someone like Cleary or Andersson. They'll stay tied 1-1 until the last five minutes or so or go to overtime; either team could win.

or

2. The Wings keep peppering Hiller with terrible shot after terrible shot, probably forcing a couple penalties along the way, and come up empty through the first 10 minutes. The Ducks score on their first real chance of the period to make it 2-0, likely on a defensive zone turnover by Quincey, Kindl, Ericsson, or any 3rd or 4th line forward under the age of 28. The Wings desperately try to get back into the game and pull Howard with a minute and a half left. The Ducks score an empty netter in the final minute and win 3-0. The Wings out-shoot the Ducks 50-23.

I've seen this movie before. It has a disappointing ending more often than not.

not for the first time this season, i'll say how proud i am of this team

 

and ya, we all know that bad calls are gonna happen. very happy the blown penalty at the start of OT didn't bite us in the ass.
