Im hoping, of course, the Red Wings do pretty well in the Eastern Conference. They havnt done too bad in the recent past. Not counting this season, but, the 2 previous Detroit went 22-11-3. If you go back to the 05-06 season the Wings are 62-30-10...thats some pretty good success against the East teams. Hopefully that success continues this coming season. The Wings seem, from what ive been reading, that they are targetting and planing on drafting, larger sized, skilled players. Some of the younger Wings coming into form are just that. I dont mean to be argumentative or a Holland cant do no wrong, sounding guy, but, I dont know if you want to focus too much on just toughness and the such...and you guys know I am a fan of the good ole, smash mouth hockey, but, I still want the kind of player that has speed and skill to go with his toughness and Im thinking some of you do to. A nice blend , if you will. Do the Wings need an old fashioned type enforcer on the team? I think that would be cool...hell, maybe even two . They are going to get challenged more often, I think, and it would be nice to have a guy or two that can go. Playing in the East is going to be fun and I cant wait to see how things unfold. P.S. I miss the Blackhawks rivalry already. I used to hope for a Bruins, Red Wings Cup...now I hope for a Wings and Hawks series.
I wonder if the Wings go after Lecavalier to replace Flip at center. He should still have a few goals left in him and he might be on the cheap. idk.
Nice try Lulz. Just because I AM objective and don't always sugarcoat everything doesn't make me the negative fan some make me out to be. Sometimes I'm wrong and I admit when I am. But aside from myself and Cutter there aren't many Wings fans on these boards who actually go out on a limb and speak their mind. You hate it when we slam Holland... and you have said on multiple occasions ( too many to count) that Holland knows his job best and that you're not going to insult or judge him. And honestly, that's fine.... if that's how you feel then that's how you feel. I think as a fan I have a right to judge the GM of my favorite team. He hasn't made any moves worth talking about in over 2 years.... I also said Detroit should trade Howard and Fil at the traded deadline and caught a lot of flack from you and some others on CBS for being of that opinion. Howard played very well in the playoffs so for now he proved me wrong and got off on the right foot with his big money extension. But I'm not always wrong because I said Holland should trade Fil at the deadline and I was 100 percent correct. Fil sucked badly for most of the post season and now he's likely to leave. Just like with Owl Boy, Holland loses Fil for nothing too. And he lost Stuart for nothing too. I hate losing players for nothing. Am I less of a fan for sometimes being critical? I think not but if that's what you believe that's perfectly fine with me and believe me, it doesn't bother me at all. I will continue to use websites and boards like this to speak my opinion.
to cutter: you consider anyone who gives kenny credit, or even just the benefit of the doubt, to be not objective - and yet u seem to have no problem labeling the complete opposite point of view objective. i don't assume every non-role player we sign will be overpaid. i don't consider making a BIG move a guarantee of anything. the biggest trade deadline moves were iginla and jagr, weren't they? both of those guys flat out blew this playoff run. sorry if that makes me non-objective, but i think i'll stay that way. to 69: yes, u absolutely gave credit to kenny for howard, but only AFTER you heaped him with condemnation in advance.
and 69, i am not giving out fan grades. i leave that for the gentleman who inspired my current avatar. as u would say, nice try.
let's distill this down to my point to begin with. i don't think kenny critics are any more objective than the ones who don't jump on him at every opportunity.
Cutter it's pretty simple. According to quite a few fans out there ( Lulz isn't the only one) we are supposed to thank our lucky stars every day for the success the Wings have had the last 20 years. We are not allowed to slam Holland... not now and not ever. Lulz has said in the past that it's ok to disagree with Holland but in reality it's not because there hasn't been even ONE occasion in the last year where Lulz and a few others agreed with anything said against Kenny Holland. I swear to God Kenny is going to have a statue built for him in downtown Detroit in the very near future... he's considered a God by many. BUT.. although I can respect anybody's opinion the one thing I will never stop doing on these boards is typing how I feel about Holland or anything else related to hockey. I will never hesitate for the fear somebody will look at me as "negative" because that's not what these boards are for. Whether Wings fans want to admit it or not, a lot of the success Kenny Holland had is because he used to have a massive advantage in the NHL that is no longer there. At one time the Wings had a clear edge in scouting overseas and picked up unbelievable hockey players very late in the NHL draft. As hockeybob pointed out a very long time ago teams have now caught up to the Wings overseas so that advantage is long gone. We will never again pick up a Lidstrom where he was drafted. Or a Kronwall where he was drafted. Or a Franzen or a Holmstrom or a Datsyuk or Zetterberg or a Federov ... I can go on and on but I won't. There was a lot of luck involved for Holland.... and now that everybody has caught up and these players are starting to get older and disappear I want to see Holland actually do something.
lol, so now you're gonna rewrite history, 69? i've never said anything critical about kenny? complete bullshit. the difference between u and i is NOT that i never criticize him - the difference is that i don't assume in advance everything he does he will do wrong.
Perfect example about what I was talking about Lulz, thank you for pointing that out. I take a swing and miss once in a while but it's important to remember 2 things. One, at least I have the balls to take a swing once in a while and not just praise somebody every day as most Wings fans do Holland. And two, when I'm wrong I make no excuses and admit I'm wrong. By your quote you almost make that seem like a bad thing but in reality it's not a bad thing at all.
u misunderstand, 69 - i give u complete credit for owning up. it is your willingness, if not eagerness, to condemn the guy in advance that bugs me.
LOL Lulz if you've ever said anything negative about Holland you'll have to refresh my mind because I missed it. And never once did I say in advance that every move Holland makes will be wrong.
No Lulz its when people like you jump all over me anytime I say anything negative about the guy. I was the first to say Ill eat humble pie for not only Datsyuk not going back to Russia but also resigning Howard. Ive yet to hear you say anything about hollands inactivity, sometimes you dont make a move just to make one -I get that. But in 2+ years there are some moves I wouldve made. And never have I said I want iginla, Jagr or Morrow so thats a moot point. I also never said anything about overpaying role players. not sure where some of your statements come from. I know you like to play devils advocate and in most cases it comes off more as a big case of homerism. these boards are for people to voice their opinions and have some fun. there are plenty of things that are said on here I dont agree with but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I dont have to justify my love for this team to you or anybody else, if I didnt care I wouldnt say anything. you should know by know that Im a very opinionated person and dont hold back, sometimes Im over the top and I admit it but if getting some things off my chest on here about the Wings makes me a bad fan then so be it
by the way by my count heres some of the I told you were bad ideas -Dont sign Ian White, check -trade Val before you get nothing, check -trading a first for Quincey was moronic, check -dont go after Sammy hes always hurt, check -dont sign Carlo HES always hurt, check Im wrong plenty of times but maybe not everything I say is
cutter, i disagree with u and stand my ground. isn't that what we are both doing here? again, where does this bad fan BS come from? i repeat - that's SCPB's department. as for jagr and iggy - that was in reply to 69's comment about big moves. simply an illustration of my take on big moves - namely, bigger is not necessarily better, it might be, or it might suck too. for the record: gustavsson signing - fail quincey - mediocre at best samuelsson - EPIC FAIL, and for those who have forgotten, i've said it from the moment we signed him china doll - torn on this one. when he finally came back, his play really impressed me. but since he played a tiny fraction of the schedule, gotta go with fail
I thought the iginla stuff was something you thought I said. and it looks like a lot of what we both were posting say the same thing as far as signings go. we agree to disagree but I thought that was behind us a long time ago - guess not ...by the way who the hell is SPBC?
