Red Wings remove Jimmy Howard from IR Goaltender has been sidelined with groin injury since Nov. 25 ___________________________________________________ Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard was removed from injured reserve Wednesday. Howard will take part in his first full practice Thursday after working out with Red Wings goaltending coach Jeff Salajko for several days without discomfort, according to the Detroit Free Press. Howard has been sidelined with a groin injury sustained in the first period against the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 25. Goalie Petr Mrazek has started six of the past seven games. Howard is 5-5-0 with a 1.82 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in 12 appearances (11 starts). Goaltender Jared Coreau and center Tomas Nosek were assigned to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. Coreau made 32 saves in his NHL debut, a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Forward Andreas Athanasiou, out since spraining his left knee Nov. 10, also is expected to practice Thursday and could return during Detroit's five-game homestand that begins Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Red Wings are slip, sliding away. Not looking good at all. The only bright spot has been Jimmy Howards goaltending. Injuries have been a factor, but you have to play regardless and the Wings look totally disorganized at times and cant pass the puck. I'm used to seeing puck control by them and precise passing... not this year. Maybe things get better with the return of Abdelkader, Helm and the rest, but there is still something missing. I'm even wondering if Blashill has lost control.
They look really easy to matchup against. It's a real shame they didn't use this season to tank in my opinion. Some lean years ahead by the look of it. Lots of bad cap money on the books.
The Detroit Red Wings placed goaltender Jimmy Howard on seven-day injured reserve Wednesday. Howard sustained a lower-body injury at 5:39 of the second period of a 4-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday when Red Wings defenseman Nick Jensen and Lightning forward Erik Condra fell on top of him during a scrum in the crease. Howard was unable to put weight on his right leg and had to be helped off the ice.
The postponed game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Detroit Red Wings, originally scheduled to be played on Dec. 19, has been rescheduled for Monday, March 27, 2017 at PNC Arena, the National Hockey League announced today. The start time for the game will be 7 p.m. ET.
Wings beat Florida in a shootout, but Florida still gets a point and that's the team Detroit needs to catch... I hate that. 3-point games must be done away with.
