Detroit Red Wings

  1. I'm also not a fan of the Helm deal. Five years ago I was excited about him wearing the Winged Wheel for the entirety of his career. I thought he was gonna put up 30-60 seasons on a regular basis by now, but he hasn't even come close to that. If he were just a depth player making $2 million a year I wouldn't have a problem with him at all, but he's being paid as a fringe top 6 forward. He isn't that good, and on top of that he's injury prone. No, I don't like this deal at all.

Otter made himself a fan favorite real quickly in Buffalo. He may do the same in Detroit. It'll help if Wings fans do not expect good hockey skills.

    Good luck, Steve.

I liked Ott when he was in Buffalo and St.Louis... I just might be his biggest fan in Detroit too.

  5. I just remember hating Ott when he was with Dallas -- especially in the 2008 WCFs. I think I remember McCarty having a problem with him in particular. Otherwise I don't know much about him other than that he's big and doesn't score.

Im of the opinion that adding Vanek and Nielsen make the Red Wings much better offensively. Certainly makes it easier to make up 4 lines which includes Helm on the 3rd or 4th.

Wings play a sound system defensively even with the talent lacking there... they do alright.

Im thinking they bettered themselves about the best they could in lu of losing Datsyuk.

Production on a consistent basis from Tatar, Abdelkader, even Zetterberg is a must and i think the newly added Wings will be the right push to keep things rolling offensively.

Larkin and AA should be even better a long with Mrazek in goal.

Steve Ott will add leadership and toughness the Wings lack dearly.

Im trying to be positive and hopeful going into next season and I am confident this is a much better team now. Wings lack consistency offensively and that should be an improvement this season.

An excellent display of logic and wishful thinking mixed together. Thank you!

I hope Tommy snaps back from last season, and I suspect he may. But, do not put too much emphasis on what he brings to a team. He has an elite all star body being controlled by a career hack/journeyman's mind. He is, officially, now a journeyman.

Otter never purported to be anything other than what he delivers. I am not sure that "leadership" is the most apt word, but he does bring a feverish level of commotion that gets his team's attention.

I'm hoping both Vanek & Ott pay off for the Wings this year ... but I'm glad they're not on the Sabres.

    4 years?
I think Holland is a good gm, but he has not shown creativity making major acquisitions or clearing capspace. This is the kind of contract that gets in the way of how he would like to do business.

Pay him more dollars for shorter term Kenny. This team is 2 dmen and a first line forward from serious contention.

Who's gotta go now to get them in cap-shape? (Not being a wise-guy. I just want to know who you think they'll ship out.)
